Why does the job exist?

This position exists to support Spaceport America's Business Development Directorate and Its activities associated with the growth of the commercial space Industry In the state of New Mexico. The Incumbent will Interface with commercial, civil and government aerospace organizations to support the provision of solutions and services that result In Increased utilization of Spaceport America facilities and capabilities. The position Is a key member of the business development team and will Interface with customers and government agencies to provide local, national and international outreach. The Incumbent will Interact and coordinate with internal departments and will track prospects, priority initiatives and customer coordination. As assigned, the Incumbent will manage special business development assignments. As needed, the Incumbent will also directly support spaceport customers In their operations.

How does it get done?

Supports the vision and mission of the enterprise, assists in the implementation of development strategies and participates In cross-functional programs and Initiatives.
  • Brings current knowledge of requirements, operations and procurement processes of the private and public sectors of the commercial space Industry.
  • Provides support to general administrative matters.
  • Attends Industry conferences; prepares and delivers technical papers and provides updates on NMSA activities and capabilities.
  • Provides customer and project management support for various activities from simple events to customer relationships.
  • Prepares CONOPS and operational requirements for presentation, discussion and agreement with potential customers.
  • Researches and formulates responses to customer inquiries and Request for Proposals (RFP).
  • Assesses external inquiries to determine and recommend appropriate course of action.
  • As assigned, oversees business development Initiatives from development through completion.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations in support of STEM programs and other public outreach.
  • Assists In the research and Identification of emerging business opportunities.

Who are the customers?

This position Interacts with a wide cross-section of customers, organizations and members of the space Industry in general, Including their technical, financial and educational segments. As well, the incumbent relates with other agencies, community stakeholders, the public, and NMSA staff and Management Team.

Ideal Candidate

  • Hold a Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Clvil Engineering, or Physical Science.
  • Have a minimum of five years tangible experience in aeronautical or aerospace operations planning and execution, to include technical and technological analyses and risk assessment, strategic
planning and implementation.
  • Be very familiar with state-of-the-art private and public commercial aerospace industry.
Have demonstrable expertise in business development activities; business-to-business (B2B) sales; proposal development, presentation and submission; contracts management.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, systems engineering, or physical science (with an emphasis on applied analysis) and five (5) years of experience in space launch operations planning and execution systems, applying aeronautical and engineering principles to launch operations analysis, performing statistics-based risk assessments, analyzing space vehicle trajectories, working with guidance, navigation and control systems, developing and interpreting maps.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's License. Must obtain and maintain a state of New Mexico defensive driving certificate. Must pass a standard background check.

Duties of this job can involve exposure to data and technology that is export-controlled by either the Department of State U.S. Munitions List (USML), through the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or by the Department of Commerce, Commerce Control List (CCL), through the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Employees in this position are subject to the requirements of ITAR (22 CFR 120-130) and EAR (15 CFR 730-774). Please review ITAR and EAR requirements to ensure you are eligible for employment.

Working Conditions

Work Is performed In office settings with exposure to extensive use of personal computer, phone, office machines and equipment. Some sitting, standing, bending, lifting and reaching may be required. Ability to complete assignments with a high level of accuracy within strict time constraints. Occasional travel is required. This position is sometimes required to work overtime and flexible schedules. The position may require work outside office environments during rocket launches in the sometimes harsh environment at Spaceport America.
