Ancestry seeks a Software Engineer to join our genealogy web development team. This team creates new innovative web experiences for Ancestry customers and maintains and improves existing pages. These web pages help customers see their genealogy trees, manage stories and photos related to their ancestors, and encourage customers to collaborate with each other.

What you will do…

• Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure the availability of the website
• Collaborate with other engineers to develop scalable, resilient, and maintainable web pages and to find the best solution
• Practice good coding techniques including writing unit tests, doing commits and pull requests, etc.
• Create web pages using node.js, React, and JSON APIs.
• Manage the AWS cloud infrastructure needed for our pages using company-provided tools. This includes allocating the right CPU, memory, and auto-scaling policies in a way that provides a good customer experience while minimizing costs.
• Collaborate with product managers and UX designers to communicate feasibility of ideas, set reasonable expectations of time for completion, and find ways to accomplish these goals with fellow engineers.

Who you are…

• 2+ years of industry experience programming in JavaScript, HTML, CSS, node.js and React
• Familiarity with AWS Cloud, ECS, ELB, EC2.
• Bachelors or 4-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
• Familiarity with agile software development, data-driven iteration/innovation.
• 2+ years of experience in front and middle tier web development.

As a signatory of the ParityPledge in Support of Women and the ParityPledge in Support of People of Color, Ancestry values pay transparency and pay equity. We are pleased to share the base salary range for this position: $104,400 - $154,350 with eligibility for bonus, equity and comprehensive benefits including health, dental and vision. The actual salary will vary by geographic region and job experience. We will share detailed compensation data for a specific location during the recruiting process.
