Adult Psychiatrists
Adult Inpatient Psychiatric serves acute and chronically mentally ill patients by providing high quality psychiatric clinical and therapeutic care. The unit specializes in administering care to adult patients who display challenging behaviors and/or who may have comorbid medical diagnoses that cannot be accommodated by other mental health facilities in Colorado. The adult unit comprises 57 beds over a span of 3 units. The multiple units allow for the development of a diverse set of nursing and therapeutic skills including de-escalation techniques, therapeutic awareness and communication. Staffing ratios include a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 and behavioral health tech ration of 1:7. These ratios create safe, dignified, individualized patient care. Job Summary
Under general professional supervision, preforms behavioral health social work services including planning, organizing, treatment and inpatient psychiatry discharge/disposition. Delivers social services in accordance with the approved plan of treatment and plan of care. Assists the physician and other behavioral healthcare members in understanding significant social and emotional factors related to the patient's behavioral health problems.
Essential Functions:
  • Utilizes methods, techniques and approaches to the delivery of care that are consistent with the patient population and in conformance with the specific care plan developed for each patient. (10%)
  • Utilizes clinical skills to provide appropriate treatment recommendations and services to clients and families. (5%)
  • Documented activity reflects patient involvement in goal setting with written information consent documented. Completes documentation of social work activities and interventions per established standards and guidelines. Prepares and submits data and information to behavioral health supervisor in a timely manner. (10%)
  • Consults, negotiates, and coordinates with internal and external resources to assure collaborative efforts and to maximize patient outcomes. (10%)
  • Applies basic knowledge of individual, group and family dynamics and treatment methods to assist client in achieving treatment goals. (5%)
  • Assists clients to maximize adjustment to behavioral health diagnosis/illness/disability/trauma by addressing biopsychosocial issues and enhancing problem solving and coping skills. (10%)
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments that are individualized, objective and complete. (5%)
  • Monitors and evaluates effectiveness of services to consumers and modifies interventions plan as indicated. (5%)
  • Applies method of providing services which involves identifying client’s behavioral health needs, planning for implementation or coordinating care plans through resources acquisition, monitoring, advocacy and evaluation. (10%)
  • Develops knowledge base of risk factors for psychosocial functioning, wellness and health promotion and provides basic education to patient. (10%)
  • Coordinates follow-up treatment referrals to various levels of care including outpatient therapy and psychiatry, intensive outpatient programing, long term care and other services as indicated. (10%)
  • Evaluates emotional components, impact of health issues and assists client to identify disruptive factors to establish treatment goals. Adheres to and complies with rules and regulations of the City, Agency, Department and Service. Practices in accordance with ethical principles established in NASW code of ethics and by Denver Health. (10%)

Education:
  • Master's Degree Required

Work Experience:
  • One year of experience Required

Licenses:
  • LSW-Licensed Social Worker - LSW State Licensing Board Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to articulate the professional use of self in the relationship to maximize client’s adjustment, enhance strengths and promote resolution of identified problems.
  • Knowledge of discharge and in-service education programs.
  • Ability to help the patient and family to understand, accept and follow medical recommendations.
  • Skill in obtaining appropriate health care resources/services and educating others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of emotional and social factors that affect patient’s health.
  • Ability to utilize resources, such as family and community agencies to assist the patient to resume life in the community.
  • Ability to communicate to the appropriate staff information about the patient’s discharge plan.
  • Proficiency with software applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to develop effective therapeutic interventions that are socio-culturally sensitive.
  • Ability to collect key information from the patient, family and the community as part of the social worker assessment.
  • Skilled in identifying problems/opportunities to improve care.
  • Proficiency in operating Electronic Medical Records, including EPIC.
  • Ability to manage time sufficiently to achieve established goals.
