Identify and measure human environmental and occupational exposures to chemicals. Treat populations adversely affected by chemical exposures. Develop educational tools describing relative risks of chemical exposures. Contribute to public policies related to environmental and occupational chemical risks. Offer training programs for environmental health professionals.


The Institute serves as an unbiased source of expertise about environmental problems for communities, employers and governments in all areas of occupational and environmental health, toxicology and risk assessment. EOHSI members are active as advisors to international, national, state and local organizations on public health issues.

Posting Summary


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Social Worker for the Clinical Center/ CROM within Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences ( EOHSI ). Under supervision, the Social Worker I provides supportive psychotherapeutic counseling and/or crisis intervention to patients and families. The Social Worker I, functions with considerable autonomy in providing professional social work and case management services to World Trade Center ( WTC ) first responders and their families related to their health care and general well-being for a Federally contracted health program.


Among the key duties of this position are the following:


  • Under supervision, may perform mental health diagnostic assessments and maintains a caseload of individual therapy clients and co-lead groups.
  • Provides social work & case management services to WTC Health Program patients and their families/significant others.
  • Develops therapeutic relationships with WTC patients and assesses needs of patients referred/identified.
  • Addresses patient’s bio-psychosocial, social service, and resource needs and links patient and their families to services, resources and opportunities to maximize patient functioning and well-being.
  • Conducts thorough assessments of patients’ biopsychosocial, social service and resource needs.
  • Responds with sensitivity to cultural and socio-economic factors impacting patients and their families.
  • Assists patients in resolving social, emotional & environmental problems that interfere with psychosocial functioning and positive response to medical treatment.

Minimum Education and Experience


  • Master’s degree plus 1-year professional experience required- preferred in a clinical setting assessing biopsychosocial needs of patients.


Certifications/Licenses


  • Applicants possessing a Master’s degree in Social Work must have an active NJ license, LSW (Licensed Social Worker) or LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).


Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Skilled with healthcare EMR , preferably EPIC . Knowledge of government assistance programs ( SSI / SSD /Medicare/Medicaid, etc.).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience creating surveys with Redcaps.
  • Bi-lingual and CCM certification a plus.
