About the Division of Youth Services: The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services that encompass juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates fifteen secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21, who are pre-adjudicated, sentenced, or committed. The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and non-residential service providers throughout the State. For pre-adjudicated youth, the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Colorado Youth Detention Continuum, a State-funded, locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming, the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

Summary Of The Position
This position exists to provide behavioral health clinical services to severe substance abusing committed youth in the facility that experience complex mental health, trauma, substance abuse, aggression and other related issues. Services are provided consistent with DORA requirements and mental health training, services include: clinical assessment, service planning, individual, group counseling, record keeping and service coordination with a Multi- disciplinary team. This position collaborates with the Clinical Director in enhancing current drug and alcohol treatment services for the agency; provides leadership around difficult/complex substance abusing youth across the agency; and, consults with other Behavioral Health Specialists.
This position provides direct services to youth, including individual and groups services as well as be a resource for transition planning and community re-entry. This unit understands behaviors of adolescents and is able to treat the youth from the perspective of lowering the risks and increasing protective factors the youth presents with and addressing the relationship between substance abuse issues and behavior.
This position is skilled in the use of a strength-based perspective, systems theory, trauma informed care, and behavioral approaches. As a Social Worker IV this position supports other Behavioral Health Specialists by providing enhanced services to complex youth, consulting to provide guidance on behavioral interventions for youth, and provides in the moment coaching to assist in the professional growth of less experienced behavioral health specialists.
  • Works with the primary Behavioral Health Specialist assigned, to develop interventions, specialized programming and individualized supports for youth.
  • Assists in sharing knowledge based on experience, expertise and research for the

  • Treatment services are - relevant to the needs of the youth and the individual needs and protective factors, considering their age, ethnic, cultural, religious and sexual identity issues, to affect behavior change and the reduction of complex co-occurring needs and risk to community and symptoms in the individual and family.
  • Provides counseling in accordance with training and expertise gained through specific training and knowledge of DORA standards and OBH expectations.
  • Conducts individual, group, and family therapy sessions using evidence-based treatment theories and curriculum substance abusing adolescents.
  • Maintains a caseload and collaborates with the primary Behavioral Health Specialist assigned to the case.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current, valid licensure as a Professional Counseling (LPC) or current, valid licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
  • Two years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Professional Counselor.
Substitutions
Please see Special Qualifications
  • Two years Experience as a licensed marriage and family therapist will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Current, valid licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) will substitute for the Professional Counseling license (LPC) or the Clinical Social Worker license (LCSW).
Highly Desired Competencies
  • CAC III or LAC to support coaching and oversight of Behavioral Health Specialists working towards CAC credentialing
Conditions Of Employment
  • Social workers, addiction counselors, marriage family therapists, \and professional counselors may practice in Colorado for a cumulative period of 20 days under C.R.S.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.

Sign-On Bonus
Upon approval, a sign-on bonus based on position, ranging from $2,000 to $7,000 (prorated if a part-time position), will be given in three payments: within two pay cycles of when the new employee starts at CDHS, 180-day anniversary and 270-day anniversary with CDHS.
