Job Description

Alamance County is in search of a Social Worker Supervisor I for the Child Care Assistance Unit. The function of this Unit is to help parents pay for child care to allow the parents' participation in educational training or employment activities, thereby encouraging self-sufficiency and improving the quality of life for children and families.Additionally, this unit provides child care as a supportive service for families receiving Work First Family Assistance and children served through Child Welfare, as well as supplying information to parents about choosing safe and quality child care arrangements and promoting the value of safe settings and a good early childhood education experience for a child’s ongoing development.

The supervisor of the Child Care Unit is responsible for the day-to-day operations; ongoing training of the workers within the unit; evaluation of the programs; and establishment of short- and long-term goals of the unit; ensuring that Federal, State, and local policies and procedure are followed; and performing personnel responsibilities.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training.Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems.Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs.Ability to supervise, train, or orient lower-level social workers, students, interns or other staff.Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.Ability to set goals, implement new programs and complete tasks are essential.Must have good organizational skills with an eye for detail work.Knowledge of basic social work theories and practices as well as stages of child development are preferred.Knowledge of practices of working with adults individually and in groups is essential.

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work or counseling experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and three years of social work or counseling; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
