Job Description

Under the general direction and supervision of the Recreation Supervisor/Aquatic Director , the Youth Soccer Referee is responsible for officiating scheduled soccer games coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department.

This is a seasonal position on Saturdays only in September and October. Typical hours are 8:45 am - 11:00 am, but these hours may vary depending on the game schedule.


Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for the position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive; other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Officiates soccer games as assigned and enforces the rules of play.
  • Communicates with coaches, players and sponsors, and helps maintain order.
  • Maintains accurate time sheets and submits them to a designated supervisor in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Must have knowledge of the sport of soccer or the desire to learn the sport.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to operate ball pumps and whistles.
  • Knowledge of supervising children in an educational or recreational setting.
  • Ability to see play with sufficient clarity to make accurate decisions.
  • Basic knowledge of soccer.
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Work is performed typically standing, walking, and running; however, sitting, bending, stooping, and reaching is required on an intermittent basis.
