Job Description
Position: Reliability Engineer
Location: Corpus Christi, Texas
Salary: $90k-$110k + Bonus
The primary role of the Reliability Engineer is to identify and manage asset reliability risks that could adversely affect plant or business operations. The three significant aspects of that role are Loss Elimination, Risk Management, and Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM).
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Reports all incidents immediately.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment
  • Completes Management of Change where appropriate
  • Works safely, maintains a safe work environment, attends safety training and other related meetings, and actively participates and drives all safety programs:
  • Knows all safety policies and procedures (especially the Big 4 Take 2, LO/TO, Confined Space, and Injury Reporting)
  • Knows all safety standards.
  • Works to keep an environmentally sound facility
  • Knows and follows Emergency Response Plan
Reliability Support:
  • Develops engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance issues. To fulfill this responsibility, the Reliability Engineer applies the following:
  • Asset Utilization
  • Statistical Process Control
  • Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
  • Other parameters that define the operating condition, reliability, and costs of assets
  • Effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
  • Professionally and systematically defines, designs, develops, monitors, and refines an Asset Maintenance Plan that includes:
  • Participates in developing design and installation specifications and commissioning plans. Participates in developing criteria for and evaluating equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Develops acceptance tests and inspection criteria.
  • Six Sigma (6σ) Methodology
  • Identify training needs to maintain the required skills and knowledge to perform the job to the necessary standard.
  • Fault Tree Analysis
  • Applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions.
  • Provides input to a Risk Management Plan to anticipate reliability-related and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operation.
  • Keep maintenance and technical documentation current, sending markups for updates as necessary.
  • Works with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations. The Reliability Engineer is responsible for adhering to the Life Cycle Asset Management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets.
  • Works with Production to perform analyses of assets, including:
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness
  • Provides technical support to production, maintenance management, and technical personnel.
  • Remaining useful life
  • Weibull Tree Analysis
  • Participates in the final checkout of new installations. This includes factory and site acceptance testing to ensure adherence to functional specifications.
  • Value-added preventive maintenance tasks
  • Root-cause and Root-Cause Failure Analysis (RCA, RCFA)
  • Reliability modeling and prediction
  • Data analysis techniques that can include:
  • Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS)

  • Ability to identify causes and effects in problem situations, gathers information to diagnose and assess current conditions, clarifying and define problems. Confronts situations, reacts quickly and effectively in emergencies, and reflects on the root cause to learn from experience.
  • Unit downtime, rate, and quality excursions require immediate attention and reallocation of the workforce despite other projects underway.
  • Aware of likely consequences of actions, systematically selecting alternative courses before making decisions, and quickly identifying discrepancies between what should and should be happening.
Requirements
  • Fluent verbal and written skills are required to communicate within the operations team and other American Chrome and Chemicals departments.
  • Certifications in Six Sigma (Green Belt, Lean) preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer software programs systems (i.e., Lotus Notes, Word, Excel, Access, Intouch, PowerPoint, Access) is required.
  • Knowledge/Experience/Skills Required:
  • Must demonstrate ability to teach/train staff members at all levels.
  • Able to lead teams through good leadership skills. Give clear direction and the ability to control and plan activities effectively.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Three years of experience as Reliability Engineer required; in the chemical industry preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering required. Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact collaboratively with other departments, teams, and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Capacity to work with limited supervision and support in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collect and interpret data into information and fact-based solutions and planning using creativity and imagination. Evaluates based on measurable or verifiable criteria.
