Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk will perform a variety of customer service duties related to purchasing, shipping, receiving and delivery of parts and accessories that contribute to the efficient, safe and profitable operation of the shipyard, and in support of vessels and clients in operations. They will maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment. This individual will use available resources for maintaining inventory accurately for special projects.

Shipping & Receiving Clerk Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure internal and external customers receive the correct parts in a timely manner through utilization of commercial invoices and spreadsheets.
  • Maintain record of all incoming and outgoing shipments via logistics/commercial invoices.
  • Receive, ship, and store parts for vessels in operation and client orders.
  • Pick up and deliver parts as needed.
  • Communicates with supervisor and other internal customers about questions or needs in either written or verbal form in a clear, professional and efficient manner.
  • Directly responsible for all incoming part shipments.
  • Data entry in procurement/accounting software (QuickBooks).
  • Assist as needed with the purchasing of parts, shop supplies and/or tools.
  • Assist in the move/use of equipment such as, but not limited to hand-trucks and forklifts (preferred, not required).
  • Mark and store parts in receiving room according to prearranged system and assist with cycle count duties.
  • Take a proactive approach to inventory control by assisting and/or reporting discrepancies.
  • Communicate status of orders received with Purchasing Agent.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Uses equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follows established safety procedures, uses appropriate safeguards, and observes common sense rules of safety in all on the job activities.
  • Demonstrates proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Organized, independent and self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail oriented, flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence.
  • Prioritize tasks in accordance with changing deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task in a cohesive team environment.
  • Knowledge of parts operating system preferred but not required.
  • Establishes and maintains effective channels of communications with management, coworkers, vendors and all other business contacts.
  • Maintain an organized work environment.
  • Reasoning skills to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.


Education, Experience and Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years experience in a similar work environment with a proven track record of strong organizational skills, effective decision-making and excellent people skills a plus.
  • Be able to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Must hold a valid US Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and Quickbooks (preferred).
  • Ability to respond to basic inquiries and present information effectively to customers, co-workers, and management verbally and in writing.
