The opportunity:
The Underwriting Senior Consultant reports into FullscopeRMS Underwriting Management and is responsible for the evaluation and selection of risk as well as the establishment of premium levels that ensure the profitable acquisition of new cases and the continued profitable retention of inforce cases within the assigned case size levels. This position will assist in the training, technical development and mentoring of a group of highly professional underwriters.
How will you contribute:
Risk Management: Support the development of an organization focused on high quality risk assessment. This requires the incumbent to:
  • Provide developmental feedback on case level decisions within the context of a mentoring relationship
  • Analyze and identify early and ongoing risk trends for assigned clients and make appropriate recommendations for addressing these
  • Independently make financial risk decisions of up to $500,000 within defined guidelines
  • Make appropriate risk, premium and business decisions and exceptions on all cases within assigned limits
  • Develop personal credibility as a subject matter expert and go to resource on complex issues with clients and peers
Team Work: Support the achievement of FullscopeRMS as well as client goals. This requires the incumbent to:
  • Apply solid understanding of client’s strengths and weaknesses
  • Utilize technical expertise in risk selection
  • Provide mentoring and coaching of underwriting staff
  • Demonstrate decisiveness, creativity and superiority in risk selection so that the most competitive, equitable and appropriate decision is made for each client’s case Deliver dependable, accurate, timely service and build strong relationships with all clients
  • Develop selection and retention of client customers through accurate risk assessment and appropriate premium levels that meet profit, persistency and sales objectives Focus on the client’s case level sales
What you will bring with you:
  • Knowledge of the reinsurance process
  • Ability to give presentations and speak in a public setting
  • Strong computer skills, proficient in a PC environment and MS Word, Excel, and email systems
  • Well organized and able to handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently and address problems through own initiative and creativity
  • Minimum 5-10 years of group insurance underwriting experience required; college degree preferred. High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong math aptitude
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with co-workers, clients, claimants, vendors and others with whom FullscopeRMS does business
  • Knowledge of complex insurance risk issues and dynamics
  • Mastery of disability products including product provisions, plan design, pricing and contractual benefits
  • Creative problem solving and analytical reasoning skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industry and marketplace trends within the local marketplace for assigned clients
  • Demonstrated ability to be persuasive and to negotiate
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:
  • Southern region: $79,900 -119,800 annually
  • Central region: $84,200 - 126,300 annually
  • Northern region: $90,000 -135,000 annually
If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $76,200 - 114,300 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $90,000 -135,000 annually.
If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $84,200 - 126,300 annually.
