Job Description
Senior Technical Writer - Surgical Operating Unit
As a Senior Technical Writer, you will support the production of customer-facing product documentation, including but not limited to user’s guides and instructions for use (IFUs). This includes labeling for both clinicians and patients that accompany medical device products that conform to the Medtronic documentation and quality assurance standards. Projects include R&D new product development as well as sustaining activities/legacy document maintenance for various products produced by the Medtronic Surgical portfolio. You will identify document requirements, collect inputs from cross-functional technical staff and distill this technical information into detailed, accurate content for manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users. Responsible for supporting documentation to the customer-facing literature which may include labeling design plans, trace documents, technical reviews and verification deliverables. You will support product documentation updates to comply with EU MDR, FDA and other regulatory body requirements by incorporating customer inputs and ensuring standardization of document development to comply with Medtronic design standards.
This is a hybrid working opportunity (3 days a week) in our Boston or North Haven office. At this time the role will not be offering relocation assistance.

A Day in the Life
  • Conducts interviews with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation.
  • Performs duties in compliance with environmental, health and safety related site rules, policies and governmental regulations.
  • Researches and translates technical information into manuals and/or web-based documents for nontechnical and technical users.
  • Perform the administrative documentation tasks required to establish and track IFUs in a Product Lifecycle Management system.
  • May document engineering processes and specifications.
  • Produces products that conform to the company documentation and quality assurance standards.
  • Continuously evaluate business processes, identify improvement opportunities, and implement improvements.
  • Creates, develops, plans, writes and edits operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia, web-based publications and user sites; may produce content for embedded user assistance technology.
  • Recommends formats responsive to technical and customer requirements.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4 years of medical or technical writing experience

OR

  • An advanced degree with 2 years of medical or technical writing experience
