The primary duties will be overseeing internal and external resources as necessary to design, procure, and construct Industrial Grain and Milling Capital Projects on-time and on-budget that meet commercial, operational, and customer objectives. Responsible for managing all categories of project principles, including Project Execution, Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Risk, Information Management, Health-Safety-Environment, Quality, Staffing, and Operations.


This work will take place at our office in Kansas City as well as at various grain storage and milling facilities located throughout the Midwest and in North Carolina. This position will require travel to all locations. Typically, this travel occurs Monday-Friday with being home most weekends. Occasional work over weekends, although rare, does occur.


Specific Duties Will Include, But Are Not Limited To


  • Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
  • Adjust and adapt to shifting priorities
  • Control project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions
  • Provide technical support for internal operations
  • Maintain product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations
  • Deliver projects on-time and on-budget
  • Provide positive leadership to the Project Team assuring that all job tasks are performed in a safe manner in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Identify and prioritize critical tasks
  • Track, manage, and report project costs and progress
  • Manage resources necessary to obtain all applicable permits
  • Review project plans, estimates, engineering activities for multiple construction projects ensuring that project objectives are accomplished within established perimeters.
  • Control project costs by approving expenditures; reviewing bids from contractors
  • Develop project schedules and milestones.
  • Ensure designs meet applicable building codes, safety, operational, and commercial objectives
  • Lead internal and external engineering, procurement, and construction resources
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules and regulations
  • Participate in project and business development - conceptual designs, cost estimates, strategy, etc.


Requirements/Qualifications


  • Effectively communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Willingness to participate in an employee-based safety program and contribute to a rich safety culture
  • Safety focused with strong work ethic.
  • Customer-centered philosophy and approach with a sense of urgency and flexibility for operational needs.
  • Must be drug free and able to pass a criminal background check
  • Strong problem solving, communication and negotiating experience
  • Work effectively in team and independent environments
  • Experienced in the development of capital budgets, schedules, and work breakdown structures


Education/Experience


  • Familiarity with processes and operational practices of heavy industries such as material handling (grains/flour), milling, rail, transportation, structures, power, PLC, refineries, etc.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum 10+ years of significant project management experience ($500K to $30M+)
  • Experience in the development of capital budgets, schedules, and work breakdown structures
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and interpreting drawings.


Physical/Travel Requirements


  • Site visits (industrial in nature and require walking, climbing, and other similar activities) are frequent
  • Requires up 75% travel typically only during the week.
