Job Description
The Opportunity


SecondMuse is seeking a Senior Program Manager for Headstream, a national effort that over the last five years has driven the increased utilization of digital innovations in social tech, health, and education systems to support the mental wellbeing of young people. We have supported entrepreneurs through the Headstream Accelerator to reach more than 10 million youth and caring adults with an emphasis on building culturally competent products for LGBTQIA+, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other youth at the intersection of these identities.


The Senior Program Manager will be responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of Headstream’s suite of innovation-focused programming, including:


  • Headstream Fellowship | New program for later-stage entrepreneurs focused on enabling customer acquisition in education and healthcare markets for impact youth digital mental wellbeing products
  • Headstream Accelerator | Flagship program supporting 20 early-stage startups in the digital health, ed-tech, and social tech sectors build culturally competent youth digital mental wellbeing products


Working directly with Headstream’s Senior Director and program managers for each initiative, this role will evolve existing programming while launching new activities that expand Headstream’s systems approach to addressing a national youth mental wellbeing crisis.


We are looking for someone who is passionate about elevating entrepreneurs and young people as changemakers of the education and health systems.


Work Environment


This is a full-time remote position. Flexibility in hours with schedule overlapping with core work hours and ability to take and hold meetings across time zones. We are currently a fully remote team with members in Oakland, Portland, San Diego, and New York City. Occasional evening work may be required due to the national scope. This role may require periodic domestic travel. The candidate must be comfortable working in a mid-sized organization where initiative, fresh ideas, collaboration and commitment are valued and rewarded.


Essential Functions


  • Uphold Headstream’s anti-racist commitments and works to ensure that we continue to build inclusive and youth-centered initiatives that strive for justice
  • Leads team through strategy, design and implementation of program initiatives
  • Manage Headstream team members, and direct the implementation of programming
  • Coach staff, manage and develop high-performance team and achieve strategic objectives
  • Support the Senior Director to manage relationships with clients and funders
  • Proactively work with the Operations Manager to manage budgets, collect program impact data, and refine operational processes
  • Cultivate new relationships and strengthen existing ones, while empowering changemakers, collaborators, and partners
  • Work closely with the Senior Director and Operations Manager on internal Headstream team leadership and culture
  • Facilitate workshops for entrepreneurs in Headstream programming and events that bring together stakeholders, such as potential customers and funders, with program participants


Expectations


  • Implementation of high-quality programs that exceed client and program participant (entrepreneurs and youth) expectations and achieve success as defined internally.
  • Headstream direct reports are receiving guidance and coaching while developing new professional skills
  • Effectively collaborate with the Senior Director to advance strategic objectives and client relationships
  • Headstream’s network of partners and collaborators grows, expanding our ability to influence health and education systems


Requirements


  • Self-motivated and action/solution-oriented
  • A persuasive and passionate communicator. You have experience facilitating and leading workshops for program participants and community stakeholders. Public speaking or media experience is a plus
  • Ability to navigate complex and ambiguous environments that are constantly evolving
  • Work well in a participatory, team-based environment with an appreciation for teamwork and the consistent rhythm of feedback that’s required to do exceptional work
  • You have experience or are passionate about supporting solutions for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, LGBTQIA+, and multi-hyphenated youth
  • 3+ years experience as a people manager with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams
  • 7+ years experience in project, operations, or program management in ed-tech or digital health markets. Experience working with school districts, health care payers and providers, and investors a plus
  • Ability to communicate across different sectors and groups effectively, a thoughtful listener with a willingness to seek and consider multiple perspectives and possible solutions
  • Energized by the opportunity to work with impact-driven entrepreneurs to scale their solutions within these markets. Track record of effectively leading multiple simultaneous projects or work streams with an unwavering commitment to quality and the ability to quickly adapt
  • Experience supporting or working for startups. This could include past professional experience leading an innovation program similar to Headstream, being a part of a startup, or experience as a founder
