Do something different! Apple is seeking a hardworking engineer to support display panel design and integration of Apple’s phenomenal products by leading overall investigation on advanced display optical coatings. You will work with both suppliers and internal teams at Apple to craft the display-related technologies that go into Apple products. The team features a diverse engineering roster including optical engineers, material engineers, human perception experts, product design engineers, and experimental physicists. We work at a fast pace and require everyone to be highly self-motivated. A successful candidate needs to be a flexible problem solver and be able to problem-solve outside of their respective technical area. This position is focusing on the development, prototyping, and mass production of current and future Apple display and sensing products. This individual will lead and contribute to innovative optical components via optical thin film coatings and process integration.

Key Qualifications

  • Creativity and out-of-box thinking in solving problems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a multi-functional team
  • In-depth understanding and industrial experience of optical thin film processes especially dielectric coatings
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills in English
  • Knowledgeable of thin film deposition and metrology methods (PVD, CVD, wet processing, XPS, SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD)
  • Experience managing domestic and international vendors
  • Knowledge of coating integration on plastics substrates and interaction of organic-inorganic interfaces
  • Knowledgeable of optical metrology methods (Interferometer, Polarimeter, Spectrometer, Ellipsometer)
  • In-depth knowledge of thin film optical design, coating process, optical characterization, and surface chemistry
  • Strong technical background in optics, thin films, and materials

Description

- Identify areas where optical coatings can improve display performance and customer experience, then design solutions to implement - Identify technologies that potentially enable desired optical coating performances - Take total ownership to drive technologies from R&D to implementation on real products with multi-functional teams

Education & Experience

- MS or PhD in Optics, Physics, Material Science or equivalent with 3+ years of experience in related field

Additional Requirements

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience and proven track record in relevant areas in optical coating industry, advanced process technology development, and associated equipment

Pay & Benefits

  • At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $161,000 and $278,000, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
