About the Chef Ann Foundation

Founded in 2009, the Chef Ann Foundation (CAF) believes that all children should have equal access to fresh, healthy, delicious food providing them the foundation to thrive and meet their true potential. We ensure that school food professionals have the resources, funding, and support they need to provide cook-from-scratch meals that support the health of children and our planet. To date, we’ve reached over 14,000 schools and over 3.4 million children in all 50 states.


This position resides on our School Food Operations team and reports to the Executive Director of Culinary. This Sr. Specialist role will work alongside the programs and operations teams at the Chef Ann Foundation with school district partners to support increasingscratch cooking in school food programs.The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years of experience in a leadership role in a scratch-cook school food environment.They will have an understanding of what districts need to serve healthier food in a scratch-cooking environment and a passion in helping districts move towards better, scratch-cooked food.The ideal candidate will provide support in CAF’s five key areas of school food operations:food, finance, facilities, human resources and marketing.We do not expect the candidate to be an expert in all 5 of these areas, but they should have a significant understanding of each and be able to lead support as needed.This position will primarily work on our Tompkins County, NY project and other projects as needed.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to food service professionals, based on district needs
  • Able to conduct on-site assessments of a school food department
  • Work with school food teams to provide operational guidance as they increase the scratch cooking in their program
  • Ensure CAF initiatives are managed at the highest level and represent the organization’s commitment to quality, result-driven programming
  • Develop relationships with state-based agency leads in departments of Agriculture and Education to ensure our work is incorporated into state goals and outcomes
  • Develop partnerships with organizations to ensure CAF utilizes existing resources and maintains strong relationships with other entities working in this space
  • Could Manage the Operation’s Specialist and oversees goals of this focus area to ensure they deliver on the organization’s targeted outcomes
  • Work both independently and collaboratively with internal (School Food Operations & Programs teams) and external partners (school food operators, funders and program partners)


Basic Responsibilities

  • Guide project proposals, including timeline, personnel, scope of work and related materials
  • Support team members through recruitment, hiring, onboarding, professional development, performance evaluations and oversight of team
  • Maintain understanding and awareness of federal and state policies as they relate to program operations
  • Build and maintain relationships with key program stakeholders
  • Represent CAF at trade based channels, conferences, and collaboratives
  • Define program procurement plans in collaboration with team members
  • Oversee the operations within specific programs and make adjustments as needed
  • Drive processes to ensure programs meet targeted outcomes and mission
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Develop and present presentations for webinars, conferences and other public presentation opportunities that are focused on specific areas of school food expertise


Position Requirements

  • Ability to balance and prioritize competing timelines/deliverables
  • Ability to travel for work, up to 50% of the time
  • Ability to work virtually
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Must be able to travel to Tompkins County, NY once a month
  • Understand K12 recipe/menu software
  • Serve Safe Management Certificate
  • Strong project management skills, including time management and clear communication
  • Knowledge of and/or work experience in school food preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and GSuite platforms
  • Experience in program planning and development preferred

Compensation

Compensation ranges between $87,000- $125,00 per year and will be commensurate with the candidate’s previous experience and credentials. The Chef Ann Foundation is a great place to work and provides its staff with a competitive benefits package, including health insurance reimbursement, professional development, a generous paid time off program, and a 403(b) retirement plan. We are a fully-remote organization whose headquarters are located in Boulder, CO, with team members spread across the US. This position is remote and can be based anywhere in the U.S.
