What we want
The School of Dentistry is looking for a Senior Medical Transcriptionist to serve in the department of Diagnostic Sciences to perform technical clerical work in transcribing medical/laboratory cases and will serve as a liaison between medical facilities and clients. What you need to know
Salary range: $22.76 starting rate (Based on selected hire's qualifications)
Work Schedule/Location: This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm.

Required Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Two years of related experience in medical transcribing
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications which include Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others with excellent attention to detail
  • Typing skills
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma and some college credit
  • Experience in transcription with relation to medical/scientific background
  • Experience in medical transcribing
  • Histology vocabulary background or related scientific experience
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Excellent typing skills (60 wpm or above) with accuracy
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
  • Histology vocabulary
  • Ability to transcribe dictations with speed and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Responsibilities:
Transcription
  • Communicates with professional and support staff regarding transcriptions.
  • Initiates searches for medical/laboratory results.
  • Monitors medical records email for requests and correspondence from clients and forwards to appropriate location.
  • Transcription of dictated or emailed determinations of specimens processed into specified report. Reviews medical records for completeness and conformity to accepted medical/laboratory standards.
  • Verifies accuracy of typed copy on all medical/laboratory data, enters test results into required file locations, and maintains computer files.

Specimen In-Processing
  • Receives and logs in medical specimens, prepares documents and specimens for gross examination.
  • Collecting, entering information into database and preparing for doctors for processing all specimens
Distribution of Reports
  • Faxing and e-mailing reports to clinicians, including phone support.
  • Refers clients to diagnosticians for interpretation of test results.
  • Prepares and maintains confidential medical/laboratory reports.
Administrative support
  • Handles client calls and resolves administrative questions.
  • Provides administrative support for department.
