Responsibilities

As a Senior Laser Physicist, the candidate will work closely with coherent, directed energy systems and optoelectronic devices. It is anticipated that the candidate be able to both model/simulate and experimentally realize lasing or coherent energy behaviors. It is expected that the candidate be willing and able to work in highly collaborative, multidisciplinary technical teams. The position requires that the candidate be able to conceive, model, design, develop, test, and characterize laser-based and coherent-energy systems. This position is broadly conceived, so the range of experiences of the candidate can include non-standard lasing behaviors, such as coherent perfect absorbers, acoustic lasers, and magnon lasers, or laser-adjacent behaviors, such as superfluorescence, amplified spontaneous emission, or masers.

  • Support business development, write proposals, white papers, and technical documents.
  • Strong background in laser theory, along with the ability to capture, understand, and model physical phenomena, is required.
  • An MS or Ph.D. in applied physics, optics, optical engineering, physics, or related discipline is required.
  • The individual must be highly self-motivated and must thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • A background with laser frequency combs, non-linear optical phenomena, strong-field effects, and/or non-optical lasing.
  • Competency in optical modeling using software like Zemax, ASLD, etc.
  • Experience performing laboratory experiments and evaluating fieldable prototypes.
  • Five years of professional experience working with lasers, systems.
