Job Description

We are looking for an exceptional Senior Research Scientist to join our Emerging Technologies team. The team works on cutting-edge LIDAR research involving innovative design, selection, and implementation of optoelectronic components, as well as system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.

As part of the team, you will work alongside other experienced scientists and engineers to develop novel, cutting-edge solutions to several challenging problems. Understanding and experience with UV/VIS/IR active and passive components, optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electronic system design, image processing, atmospheric remote sensing using LIDAR, EO/IR sensors, night vision, and digital electronics are desired. This is a hand-on research and development position with project management responsibilities.

What You'll Do:

  • Work alongside with technical team in researching, selecting, evaluating, and/or developing component/system and packaging for specific applications.
  • Lead new concept creation and architecture design, development, and implementation activities related to remote sensing Lidar system development including performance simulation, prototyping, and testing.
  • Interact with government and non-government representatives to ensure the customer requirements are fully understood and addressed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
  • Apply experience in the use of modern programming, modeling, and simulation tools (e.g. COMSOL, ZEMAX, Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Python, OpenGL and OpenCV libraries, etc.) to help develop new technologies. Familiarity with any atmospheric simulation software (MODTRAN, etc.) is a plus.
  • Lead/provide technical write-ups related to system, hardware, and software development on bids and proposals.

What You'll Bring:

Required:

  • Must be able to prepare technical proposals and documentations
  • Must be able to design, simulate, test, and prototype component/system performance.
  • Must be able to successfully contribute and lead multiple programs simultaneously, achieving required results on time and on budget.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency and knowledge in Lidar theory, atmospheric measurements, design, building, testing, analysis, and evaluation of optical systems.
  • Ability to present technical concepts and designs to Senior Management and customers.
  • 5-8+ years’ direct experience in Lidar system design, development, and implementation for remote sensing applications (including years of post-doctoral study)
  • PhD in Applied Physics, Optical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering
  • Must have excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills.

Preferred:

  • LabView programming experience
  • US Citizenship

Pay Range:

$115,000-$165,000

However, base salary for this position will vary based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
