The Senior Editor assists the Executive Editor and Editor in Chief in managing the day-to-day activities of the magazine as well as shaping the long-term editorial direction of the magazine. Helps manage staff and workloads for the junior editors, as well as does a variety of writing and editing including but not limited to interviews, reviews, previews, cover and features stories, and various other editorial departments. In the absence of the Executive Editor and Editor in Chief, the Senior Editor manages all office activities, helping to coordinate between the Editorial, Graphic Design, Managerial, and Advertising staffs. Also maintains contacts with various PR and development contact in the game industry.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned as necessary to fulfill the optimum efficiency of this position.
Assist in management of staff
Contribute to discussion on upcoming coverage of video games
Writing reviews, previews, interviews, and feature coverage of games
Coordinates editing process, maintains style guide for Game Informer
Communicate with companies and PR professionals in gaming to secure coverage
Deal with any upcoming problems with regard to the magazine for Editor in Chief
ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS/ABILITIES
Accurate typing and data entry skills
Operate a personal computer and use MS Excel/Word/Outlook and required programs.
Organize, prioritize, and control job responsibilities
Flexible to adapt to changing priorities and perform basic task work to meet deadlines.
Work with minimal supervision
Perform basic math and alphabetizing functions
Read and comprehend printed data/information and data/information displayed on PC monitor.
Recognize discrepancies in written/recorded data/information.
Answer telephone and initiate phone calls in a professional manner.
Possess clear verbal communication and listening skills, both in person and on the phone.
Communicate effectively with management, coworkers, and store staff
Possess good verbal and written communication skills
Possess good analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Able to work with no or minimal supervision
Understand and accurately follow policies, procedures and controls
Work as scheduled to meet standards of company attendance policy
Understanding of the video game industry
Ability to review and write about video games
Good grasp of grammar and usage
Ability to manage staff
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED preferred
College Degree preferred
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
