Common App is currently searching for a Senior Director Portfolio Management Office.


Responsibilities


The Senior Director of the Portfolio Management Office is responsible for supporting, coordinating, and implementing capacity, processes, and infrastructure related to Common App’s Portfolio Management activities. The role will support portfolio-based initiatives including tailored project management and resource needs as requested by portfolio leaders. This individual will work closely with senior leadership and across individual portfolios to support and steward cross-functional collaboration, develop strategic operational processes, support prioritization and decision-making, and assess, recommend, and aid implementation of project management methodologies that will yield aligned, measurable, and successful delivery of objectives and commitments in support of Common App’s mission and strategy.


The responsibilities of the Senior Director - PMO include managing the day-to-day activities of the PMO team, leading and growing the PMO Center of Excellence, and collaborating with Portfolio leaders to support the planning, prioritization and delivery of programs and projects. Acting as a valued business partner, the Senior Director-PMO provides a continuous focus on strengthening internal partnerships with portfolio-based leaders across the organization and while concurrently increasing the value of services the PMO team provides to Common App.

QUALIFICATIONS


This role requires:


  • Clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of cross-functional project teams and functional management.
  • Demonstrated leadership for process harmonization across an organization and ability to communicate
  • Candidates must live in the United States
  • Experience supporting organizations with the planning of change and helping colleagues the adoption of a continual change mindset.
  • Experience and understanding managing financial aspects of projects including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Exceptional portfolio, program, and project management skills.
  • Excellent decision-making skills – ability to negotiate and balance decisions and manage competing priorities across multiple functional areas.
  • Portfolio, capacity, and financial management experience
  • Business acumen; ability to think from an overall “best for the business” perspective while balancing mission
  • Program and team management experience or people manager experience with direct reports.
  • Experience managing operational initiatives and projects
  • Strong empathetic management skills; ability to work collaboratively and effectively at all levels in a matrix environment to build and maintain the positive relationships required to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Ability to be a servant leader that puts the needs of others first and helps individuals across the organization develop and optimize performance.
  • Ability to facilitate collaborative conversations to build consensus
  • Project, Program, and Portfolio leadership experience with knowledge of management tools, methodologies, and practical application
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal/team effectiveness – ability to succinctly, accurately, and emotionally communicate with different styles to various levels and of management and employees.
  • Experience providing work guidance and leadership to people and teams in a management role.
  • Demonstrates a desire to understand challenges and seek solutions through inquiry, flexibility, and collaboration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Administration, or a related field
  • Experience working with agile methodologies


The ideal candidate will possess:


  • Experience working professionally with JIRA, Confluence, and other PM toolsets
  • A passion for higher education is a plus
  • Agile related certification preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in program, project, and portfolio management preferred
  • PMP Certification preferred
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration
