Job Description

At Arbor, we envision a world free of disease by using genetic medicines to fundamentally shift the paradigm from treatment to functional cure, and ultimately to prevention. We aim to accomplish this through the discovery of programmable DNA editors with the power to enable bespoke curative genetic medicines for patients.

We are seeking an experienced leader who will be responsible for driving Arbor’s Precision Editing strategy and leading the team responsible for design and optimization of screening campaigns to develop novel gene editing systems. This role requires experience working with the senior leadership team to set strategy for development of new gene editing technologies and effective communication with key stakeholders.

What You Will Do:

  • Establish high throughput screening capabilities and lead screening campaigns to optimize the activity of Arbor’s precision editing technology in various cell lines and relevant primary cell models
  • Manage the team responsible for design and construction of large-scale combinatorial libraries of both precision editing effectors comprised of nucleases fused to multiple effector proteins and accessory factors
  • Set strategy for development of Arbor’s proprietary precision editing platform in collaboration with the senior leadership team and members of the SAB
  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management of the ‘Precision Editing Technology Team’ to meet key organizational objectives and support the professional development of direct reports
  • Conceptualize and oversee development of cell-based assays to quantitatively measure precision editing activity in cell lines and primary cells in high throughput
  • Represent the Editing Sciences team in interactions with internal and external partners to validate precision editing technology in primary cells and transition lead candidates to preclinical development
  • Provide strategic leadership for all aspects of screening campaigns to optimize the design and activity of precision editing technologies
  • Collaborate with the automation and computational biology teams to design and optimize methods for collection and analysis of screening data

What You Will Bring:

  • Expertise in state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques for large scale library production
  • 12+ years of relevant experience, including 8+ in biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience in genome engineering, functional genomics, synthetic biology, gene therapy or related fields
  • PhD and/or post-doctoral training in cell biology, genetics, biological engineering, synthetic biology, or related fields
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • 5+ years of experience building, managing, and leading teams and complex technology development projects to successfully meet objectives supporting the organization, its people, and patients
  • Direct experience leading high through put screening campaigns in mammalian cells
  • Familiarity with standard delivery methods for high throughput screening using lentivirus, plasmid DNA, RNP, and RNA based libraries
  • Facility with developing next generation sequencing workflows for high throughput screening applications
  • In depth knowledge of CRISPR gene editing in mammalian cell systems is essential

Added Value:

  • Knowledge of next generation sequencing techniques
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a strong scientific background inthe biology of DNA repairin mammalian cells as it relates to gene editing
  • Experience with second generation gene editing platforms such as base editing, prime editing, or targeted insertion of large payloads is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory automation for high throughput screening

Our Values:

Our values govern the work we do at Arbor, and we’re hoping that they resonate as strongly with you as they do with us!

  • Humble Authenticity: Start in the Heart
  • Purposeful Action: Start with The Why
  • Bold Resilience: Adopt a Growth Mindset

About Arbor:

Arbor Biotechnologies is a next-generation gene editing company focused on discovering and developing potentially curative genomic medicines, with the most extensive toolbox of proprietary genomic editors in the industry to date. We have the unique ability to work backward from disease pathology and choose the optimal editors or combination of editors for the disease in question, with a focus on areas of high unmet need. As Arbor continues to advance its pipeline toward the clinic with an initial focus in liver and CNS disease, the Company has also secured several partnerships around gene editing and ex vivo cell therapy programs to broaden the reach of its novel nuclease technology.
