Job Description

Garuda Therapeutics is pioneering the development of off-the-shelf hematopoietic stem cell (HSC)-based cellular therapies for treating patients with blood, bone marrow, immune, and metabolic disorders. The company uses state-of-the-art technologies in developmental biology, gene-editing, stem cells, and mechanobiology to engineer safe, compatible HSCs in scalable quantities to transform the lives of patients in need of an HSC-transplant.


Garuda Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated and talented Senior or Principal Scientist to join its growing team. Successful candidates must demonstrate advance knowledge of the principles, concepts and practice of gene-editing in pluripotent stem cells. Successful candidates are expected to thrive in a multidisciplinary environment, coordinate with other research teams, support internal discovery projects, and supervise junior associates of the gene-editing unit. The position requires enthusiasm, dedication, attention to details, analytical thinking, goal-oriented mindset and teamwork skills.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Optimize and troubleshoot procedures and develop protocols to guide internal work
  • Plan, manage, execute, and deliver gene-editing projects that include defining project milestones, designing experiments to test hypotheses, analyzing and interpreting data, assuming responsibilities for timely completion of the project, and responding appropriately to changes of priorities.
  • Effectively report research progress and planned activities through oral and written presentations
  • Hands-on supervision and training of research associates engaged in the gene-editing team and ensure that delegated work complies with internal standards
  • Provide technical expertise for deletion, overexpression, and correction of target genes in pluripotent stem cells
  • Collaborate closely with scientists from cross-functional teams to coordinate workflows and report to head of R&D
  • Maintain a high level of productivity, with clear and accurate documentation of experiments Demonstrate scientific initiative and creative thinking in achieving project goals and implementing technology innovations.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong background in cell and molecular biology and excellent expertise in gene-editing techniques
  • Demonstrated excellence in planning, executing, and analyzing experiments
  • Critical thinking and independence, ability to troubleshoot, solve difficult problems, and develop assay improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively across multi-functional groups
  • Flexible team player excited to collaborate with internal and external partners
  • PhD with 5+ years of academic or industry experience in cell and molecular biology or related discipline
  • Experience in multicolor flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy
  • Demonstrated experience in managing scientists and their respective teams
  • Highly self-motivated and flexibility in working schedule to accommodate weekend work if necessary
  • Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture and developing cell-based assays
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Attention to detail and careful record-keeping


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with human pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation is a plus
  • Experience with hematopoietic stem cells isolation, differentiation, characterization, and transplantation is a plus
  • Previous industry experience is preferred
