Job Description
This position has the ability to sit 100% remote anywhere in the US.
Overview:
The Sr. Commercial Appraiser is responsible for reviewing appraisal reports of varying complexities for accuracy, reasonableness and to ensure compliance with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), FIRREA and internal bank requirements, primarily for the Upstate New York region.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Analyze real estate market trends to ensure appraisers are concluding with supported and rational value estimates.
  • Review outside fee appraisals for accuracy and sensibility and provide written support for the appraisal review conclusions.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.
  • Strong understanding of State and Federal Regulations as they relate to lending and the appraisal process.
  • Manage a variety of assignments and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
  • Define appraisal issues, gather, and analyze market data and document market value conclusions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Scope of Responsibilities:
The position works under general supervision.
Education and Experience Required:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and confidentiality.
  • Proactive judgment ability.
  • Real Estate General Appraiser certification in assigned state required.
  • Bachelor's degree or four to five years' relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum seven years' appraisal experience, entailing all types of real estate, including assignments prepared for financing decisions.
  • Occasional out of town travel.
  • Proficient PC skills with good Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ideal Qualifications:
  • Experience with RIMSCentral, ExactBid and Real Estate Information Management System (RIMS) software.
  • Ability to complete and analyze cash flow analyses as well as advanced knowledge of ARGUS Enterprise real estate software.
  • Strong project management skills are necessary to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Specialized knowledge of the Upstate New York Real Estate Market including office, hotel, industrial multi-family residential projects including condominiums, retail, land, tax credit and bond deals.
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Access and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Strong Excel presentation skills are necessary.
