As Senior Clinical Pharmacist for Oncology and Rare Disease you will have the exciting opportunity to be an integral part of team a developing holistic strategies and clinical programs to improve the end-to-end experience, quality, and value of care for individuals with cancer and rare diseases. The Senior Clinical Pharmacist for Oncology and Rare Disease will provide clinical expertise and leadership to develop industry leading solutions to improve the quality and value of care for patients with cancer and rare disease. In this position, you will lead the development and implementation of oncology clinical pathways designed to manage the quality and cost of oncology medications covered under both medical and pharmacy benefits for Optum clients. In addition, you will provide subject matter expertise and review the clinical evidence to support the development of comprehensive clinical guidelines for CAR-T cell therapy and rare disease therapies. This newly created role requires an innovative, hands-on, action-oriented, innovative clinical expert.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in evidence-based oncology guidelines and rare disease clinical guidelines and help ensure all clinically relevant policies and processes are informed by the best available evidence
  • Develop, implement, update and maintain oncology clinical pathways
  • Collaborate with analytic teams to develop models to assess effectiveness of programs
  • Develop tools and materials to educate providers, clients/consultants, members and internal staff on the clinical programs for oncology and rare diseases
  • Collaborate with Product team in the creation, implementation, and refinement of an oncology and specialty pharmacy cross-benefit utilization management solution (Optum Fusion)
  • Stay informed regarding upcoming drug releases and treatment guidelines and provide insights to clinical leadership and product teams to support program development and evolution
  • Collaborate with Product team and clients to develop strategies to increase provider adoption of clinical pathways and other value-based care strategies
  • Manage the Optum Pharmacy & Therapeutics Oncology Advisory Subcommittee, including presenting the clinical evidence to support the clinical pathway, incorporating input for clinical experts and presenting final pathways to the P&T Committee
  • Evaluate clinical and other data (e.g., quality metrics, claims & health record data, utilization data) to identify opportunities for improvement of clinical care and processes
  • Present programs and outcomes to clients and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate with Optum Rx PDL team and Optum Frontier Therapies to inform manufacturer contracting strategies based on pathways and outcomes value-based contracts
  • Evaluate clinical evidence, guidelines, utilization and financial information necessary to develop oncology clinical pathways for treating various cancers
  • Develop and update clinical guidelines for CAR-T cell therapy and gene therapies and other rare disease specialty therapies

Required Qualifications:

  • Access to high speed internet from home (Broadband Cable, DSL or Fiber)
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of clinical oncology experience
  • Experience in one or more of the following: managed care, medical care delivery systems, utilization management, case management, disease management, quality management, product development or peer review
  • Active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in your state of residence
  • 5+ years clinical pharmacy experience
  • BS in Pharmacy or PharmD Degree
  • Dedicated workspace from home
  • Proven excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience working collaboratively across clinical and non-clinical teams to gain credibility, influence
  • Experience utilizing, interpreting, and critically evaluating NCCN, ASCO, and ESMO Guidelines to make evidence-based treatment decisions and treatment recommendations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee experience
  • BCOP
  • Experience in client-facing roles
  • Experience developing or implementing oncology clinical pathways or health outcomes or pharmacoeconomics research
  • Clinical experience in transplant and/or CAR-T therapy
  • PharmD

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
