Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student Life

Athletics Administration - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23005758)
Implements and conducts a life skills program for student-athletes aimed at enhancing the total development of individuals. Leads team and collaborates to enhance efforts. Develops and implements strategic planning, short- and long-term departmental goals, and new programs. Evaluates success and increases effectiveness of programs.
Initiated in 1995, the mission of the Cathy & John Pelusi Family Life Skills Program is to prepare student-athletes for success while in college and for life after college. The Senior Associate Athletic Director, Student Life implements and conducts a student-athlete development and life skills program at providing student-athletes an opportunity to prepare for success academically, athletically and in their personal growth and development. Leads and manages life skills team and collaborates within athletics, on campus, in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and with the Pittsburgh community to enhance program efforts. Provides strategic vision and leads Pitt Athletics’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programming for student-athletes and staff. Member of Pitt Athletics Executive and Leadership Teams and assists in developing and implementing strategic planning, short- and long-term departmental goals, and new programs for the Department of Athletics. Evaluates success and increases effectiveness of programs.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Minimum: 7 years’ experience performing student-athlete development related work. Preferred: 10+ years performing student-athlete development related work including progressive experience leading and managing a unit of student-athlete development professionals at the Division 1 level of college athletics. An equivalent combination of work experience and high level playing experience may be substituted at the discretion of the University.

Essential Functions •Implements and conducts a developmental life skills program for student athletes aimed to enhance individuals in all aspects. •Devises programs focused on the 5 key commitment areas of the Cathy and John Pelusi Family Life Skills Program: career and graduate school preparation, community service, financial education, leadership development and personal development. •Leads Panthers to Pros Mentorship Program, offering all student-athletes the opportunity to connect with established professionals for personal and professional development. •Oversees Pitt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) governance and leadership group •Sets strategic direction and leads Pitt Athletics’ Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for staff and student-athletes. (Panthers United) •Co-instructs Life Skills 3 credit course taught in collaboration with the School of Education and Pitt Athletics Mental Health Team. •Builds and manages key relationships on campus and in the Pittsburgh community to enhance programming and opportunities for student-athletes •Guides departmental service-learning efforts to offer student-athletes opportunities to positively impact their local community. •Develops and implements strategic planning for the student life area of Athletics. Establishes short- and long-term department goals. •Develops new programs and evaluates success of programs. •Aims to increase effectiveness of programs utilizing the University’s extensive resources. Works to improve all aspects of the life skills program through careful research and deliberation. •Enlists support of and participation by various University staff and relevant departments to strengthen the program. •Supervises staff, which includes hiring, mentoring, professional growth, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and other human resource administration; manages work schedules and approves timecards; provides professional development opportunities; distributes and reviews work.
