JOB PURPOSE


The position is on the Geoeconomic Influence & Threat Intelligence (GITI) team at Janes, which serves two core business areas: 1) maintaining the IntelTrak database of Russian and Chinese economic activity abroad, and 2) conducting original research and analysis on geoeconomic and national security issues using publicly available information. GITI comprises expert linguists and analysts leveraging the latest in open-source research techniques, automated sourcing and machine learning technologies, and public data investigations to provide timely, accurate, assured, structured, and interconnected data to understand the geoeconomic and national security implications of Russian and Chinese economic activity abroad.


HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE AT JANES


The Senior Analyst would track Chinese and Russian economic activity, such as overseas investments and contracting, and draft analytic products interpreting the significance of this activity for clients. The position entails independent research, writing, editing, and analysis. It may also involve developing and delivering insightful and effective client presentations, workshops, and briefings. Strong writing skills and a deep professional network on geoeconomic issues are desired. The successful candidate must be a U.S. citizen and have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field, such as economics, business, international affairs, national security, or regional studies.


THE IDEAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ROLE ARE


• Minimum five years of experience in international relations, national security, due diligence, or related field

• Demonstrates substantial depth in understanding of the work domain, including technical, geopolitical, and economic aspects of the focus

• Prior experience conducting and/or managing complex research projects on a tight timeline

• Proven research skills and experience, especially using publicly available sources

• Strong communication skills with the ability to deliver complex insights in clear, concise, engaging ways, whether in client briefings or media commentary

• Ability to set, refine, and establish team processes and practices; carry out root cause analysis to facilitate improvement in efficiency and quality of output

• Keen attention to detail and quality control, analytic ability, and timeliness

• Experience and knowledge of matters pertaining to China and/or Russia

• Understanding of international political economy and finance

• Competence with Microsoft Office suite

• Mandarin or Russian language skills preferred

• Familiarity with the Chinese Internet

• Must be eligible to work in the United States
