Position Summary
A career in Security at South Jersey Industries will provide the opportunity to identify, develop, implement, and lead departmental and enterprise-wide strategies and programs. These initiatives involve asset protection, perimeter defenses, and security strategy that protects personnel and assets. The Security Specialist Senior will support the administration of daily security operations within established company guidelines and procedures. This is an opportunity to work collaboratively with management teams to integrate cross-functional activities and programs. This team member will conduct, coordinate, and support security training programs. The Security Specialist Senior will also manage internal and external resources in support of SJI’s security objectives. This is also an opportunity to lead field operational activities including investigations and site security coordination. This team member is responsible for investigating any security breaches and recommending corrective actions (including incidents involving outside vendors), reporting of investigation findings to leadership and law enforcement as appropriate, and providing timely updates to supervision and senior management on critical investigations. As South Jersey Industries champions an affordable, reliable clean energy future for New Jersey, this position will provide critical support to the operational and strategic protection of personnel and assets.

This position involves remaining on-call outside of regular working hours for security-related emergencies. The role will also involve regular visits to other company locations in northern New Jersey, as well as occasional visits to our South Jersey offices. A company vehicle is provided for this transportation.
Essential Functions:

  • Review, execute and promote security, property protection, and response and recovery programs to physically protect SJI’s people, property, and assets; assist in identifying and evaluating recommendations for improvements to programs
  • Assist Corporate Security Manager in emergency planning, crisis management, and risk analysis programs related to people, property, and technology
  • Conduct investigations and maintain documentation of security-related incidents, including threats to SJI employees, property, and technology assets originating from internal and external sources
  • Cultivate close relationships with commercial intelligence sources and security- or intelligence-related groups and associations
  • Serve as a point of contact for local, state, and federal law enforcement, judicial officials, employees, and contractors in support of the security and business interests of SJI; maintain close coordination with Local, State, and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies, Local Fire Departments, Security Alarm Contractor(s), and Security Guard Services Contractor(s)
  • Remain current with the capabilities, service standards, and equipment of vendors of security equipment and services and make recommendations regarding the procurement and utilization of such services and equipment
  • Manage I.D. badge and access control programs and systems
  • Perform site visits, to include alarm and camera testing, at various company owned or operated sites; perform security inspections of gate and regulator stations
  • Carry out related duties as assigned within scope of practice

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Working knowledge of access control, safety, intrusion control and detection systems, physical security, protective assessments, and criminal investigations, to assist the Corporate Security Manager
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively in a diverse workforce with strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with investigative techniques, including interview techniques and laws surrounding search and seizure, evidence, and civil rights
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure with experience in crisis management
  • Analytical skills and computer literacy with the ability to learn new technologies

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience
  • Equivalent work experience or training may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Background:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, or a related field
  • Equivalent Military experience is desirable and will be considered in lieu of degree
