Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Security Specialist I/II/III (Armed) OR a Security Specialist I/II/III (Unarmed) located at Gerald Gentleman Station in Sutherland, Nebraska. Position closes April 9, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time. This position will report to the GGS Physical Security Leader.
Position Summary
GGS Security Specialists provide security related services, control site access, and respond to actual or potential security threats and violations at Gerald Gentleman Station (GGS).
Education, Training and Experience
High School Diploma or a GED is required.
Must be a minimum of 21 years of age (Armed), 19 years of age (Unarmed)
Experience working in a dispatch center, call center, alarm monitoring center or security operations center preferred.
Knowledge of access control and/or video management systems is preferred.
Ability to type a minimum of 30 words per minute.
Other work experience or demonstrated performance indicating that the applicant has the skills and ability to perform the required duties of the position may be substituted for the specified years of experience.
Armed:
In addition to above, extensive firearms experience/training, preferably through law enforcement, security, corrections, or military.
Knowledge of NERC procedural requirements preferred.
Experience making independent use of force level decisions in real life situations.
Minimum of 2 years security operations center experience
Licenses and/or Certifications
Valid Driver’s License
Armed: Proof of eligibility to legally carry a concealed weapon in the state of Nebraska (CCW, LEO, Retired LEO).
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Demonstrate mental alertness and the ability to multitask, exercise good judgement, implement instructions and policies and fully understand security tasks and processes. Possess the acuity of senses and ability of expression sufficient to permit accurate communication by written, spoken, audible, visible, or other signals required by assigned job duties.
Demonstrated ability to quickly, independently and fluently operate all District security systems within 6 weeks of hire.
Control access to GGS using Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), Cameras, and various other systems.
Monitor, respond to, coordinate and document responses to alarms (fire, intrusion, robbery, panic, motion).
Work closely with Corporate Security and the Security Operations Center (SOC) to insure standardized implementation and enforcement of all security related policies/procedures.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities (Continued)
Control access to GGS using Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), Cameras, and various other systems.
Effectively identifies and communicates potential and problematic situations and when appropriate, contacts appropriate personnel to obtain assistance in problem resolution.
Armed:
Ability to continually display, maintain safe firearms handling practices and pass District required firearms training.
Ability to immediately respond to, and properly address, any emergency or threats within the assigned facility.
Act as an on-site lead when supervision is not available. Resolves questions, complaints, and requests that may involve policy interpretation.
As business dictates, Level II Armed Security Specialists are eligible to be appointed by Management to a Quarterback temporary leadership role.
Accountable for other duties as assigned.

Security Specialist II, Non-Exempt Pay Grade 7: $21.11-$23.12/hour
Security Specialist III, Non-Exempt Pay Grade 8: $23.20-$25.40/hour
Security Specialist I (Armed), Non-Exempt Pay Grade 7: $21.11-$23.12/hour
Security Specialist II (Armed), Non-Exempt Pay Grade 8: $23.20-$25.40/hour
Security Specialist III (Armed), Non-Exempt Pay Grade 9: $25.57-$28.26/hour
Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.
