This job posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation (DOT). The Department of Human Resources Development - State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this recruitment to the DOT Personnel Office.
Patrols a regularly assigned area to enforce laws, rules and regulations for the protection and security of property and to maintain a safe environment; investigates violations, apprehends violators, issues citations, makes citizen arrests and reports unusual or irregular conditions; and performs other related duties as assigned. The immediate vacancy is located on the island of Kauai.
To qualify, applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:
Registration Requirement:
Applicants must be registered as a Guard with the State of Hawaii Board of Private Detectives and Guards, in accordance with Act 208, Session Laws of Hawaii 2010.
Experience:
One (1) year of progressively responsible work experience in the enforcement of security regulations or in the protection of property.
Knowledge of: The general duties of a security guard.
Ability to: Learn law enforcement techniques pertaining to the protection and security of property; methods of maintaining law and order within premises patrolled; understand and carry out oral and written instructions, explain to others and apply laws, rules and regulations; size up situations and people accurately and adopt an effective course of action; get along well with others; learn to use and care for firearms; and prepare written reports.
Driver's License: Applicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of application.
Selective Certification :A. The duties and responsibilities of these positions include the performance of offshore and ocean patrols requiring the use and operation of motorized boats. Therefore, applicants MUST POSSESS knowledge and experience required to safely operate vessels, motorboats or sailboats with auxiliary power. Boater Safety Education Card (Mandatory Boater Education Rule, HAR 13-244-15.5)
B. An employee in this position will be exposed to water areas where there is potential to either be pushed or accidentally fall into the water. Thus, an employee in this position is required to be at least water-safe until help can arrive or be able to swim to a safe area. Therefore, applicants MUST be able to swim 100 yards.
Certificate of completion from an accredited Facility Security Officer course is desired.
Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Clearance - Federal Criminal History Records Check: In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the TWIC clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within seven years from the date of appointment. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding seven years.
The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility. However, upon hire, the employee will be reimbursed provided he/she submits the TWIC receipt to his/her supervisor.
