Job Summary

Campus Services’ Transportation & Parking Unit:

We are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation and parking for the University community. This includes shuttle and van service, fleet management, parking, and our award-winning CommuterChoice Program which offers a few sustainable transportation options.

Operates fully accessible shuttle van as a supplement to the fixed route shuttle bus service. Receives online ride requests via Harvard’s evening van mobile application and responds to requests throughout Cambridge / Allston campuses. Assists passengers with mobility impairments as needed.

Position Description

  • Communicates on two-way radio with dispatcher to receive instructions and confirm changes, additions, or deletions from route schedule.
  • Completes vehicle condition report that includes requests for maintenance and repair.
  • Performs daily safety inspection of vehicle and equipment.
  • Operates shuttle van to meet scheduled and on-demand passenger pick-up requests.
  • Utilizes on – demand electronic technology to provide safe ride services at night.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Assists passengers with mobility impairments both entering and exiting.

Basic Qualifications

  • Local knowledge of greater Boston, Allston, and Cambridge preferred.
  • Must possess strong verbal communication skills, a clear speaking voice and solid customer service skills, including courtesy, flexibility, sensitivity, patience, and humor.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a customer-focused team environment required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related passenger transport experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Technology Skills Required:

  • Basic understanding of mobile applications, ability to navigate with a GPS.


Special Requirements:

  • Will be required to wear a uniform provided by employer.


Emergency Status Designation:

  • Critical Operations Personnel

Certificates and Licenses

  • A minimum of five (5) years driving experience required.
  • Valid State driver’s license required.
  • CDL is preferred.
  • Driving history must meet University Operations Services standards.

Physical Requirements

  • Required to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. The incumbent needs the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
