Objectives
The Scrum Master is responsible for planning, overseeing, and documenting all aspects of the specific scrum teams that are assigned to them by the Vice President of Project Management or Director of Scrum Teams. The scrum master works closely with cross-functional teams in a variety of areas including, but not limited to, I.T., Data Products, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Support Services. Knowledge of and implementation experience with agile approaches is vital in this role.
The scrum master will act as the point person for their assigned scrum team and is expected to work closely with program and project managers to ensure that the scope and direction of each assignment is on schedule. They will also work closely with product and business owners, acting as the bridge between them and the teams tasked with execution. The scrum master will lead scrum teams, managing relationships and communication with all stakeholders, ensuring the scrum team adheres to scrum theory, practices, and rules, while working as a servant leader to assist the team in resolving issues/removing obstacles.
Essential Functions
- Organize, facilitate, and manage Scrum ceremonies on an established cadence.
- Any additional duties or responsibilities as assigned to meet the needs of the company.
- Support project management schedules and deliverables.
- Contribute to team project documentation, including noting victories and defeats to use in future project and resource planning.
- Assist in issue/blocker resolution and escalation as needed.
- Ensure alignment to quarterly rocks and help maintain fidelity to established scope of work.
- Prepare periodic team project status reports to update management regularly on progress.
Competencies
- Microsoft Office Suite and Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
- Ability to effectively problem-solve and apply analytical thinking.
- Public speaking and presentation.
- Experience managing multiple projects in agile work environments.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in running multiple scrum teams for a variety of products.
- Strong customer service and phone skills.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, with two or more years of professional experience in a scrum master role.
- Experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PM software and other business-related tools.
- At least one year of professional experience in agile environments.
- Professional project management certifications preferred: CSM, PMP, CSPO, other.
