As Biology Manager, you will be contributing to various studies and be responsible for delivering pre-clinical and clinical data analysis. This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following…

  • Expand knowledge of complex industry analysis software to enable discovery modernization.
  • Testing of pre-clinical study samples from multiple animal models covering multiple Discovery Performance Units (DPUs).
  • You will contribute to on-going efforts in investigating biology/analytical platforms.
  • Deliver, interpret and communicate complex scientific data to project/program teams.
  • Testing of pre-clinical study samples.
  • Engagement with Clinical Research Organization (CRO) partners to deliver key pre-clinical and clinical data.
  • Be responsible for developing cell assays.
  • Embedding of innovative cell analysis platforms into the department.

The Molecular Biology and Virology function at the US Research and Development Center, GSK Vaccines, is responsible for the application of molecular biology and microbiology to identify antigen compositions, enabling of vector platforms for vaccine delivery, application of cell biology and virology to define vaccine potency and mechanism of action, and establishment of molecular biology technical capacity for vaccine development. The mission of the Molecular Analytics Laboratory is to provide assay and analytical support to all vaccine projects in the US Research and Development Center, using next generation sequencing techniques.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist, with proven genomics laboratory experience, to join our diverse preclinical research and development team working on RNA vaccines.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with scientists throughout the organization to support NGS activities.
  • Design, develop, optimize, and implement next-generation sequencing (NGS) protocols for the characterization of RNA and DNA molecules of interest for vaccine research and development, and their mechanism of action.
  • Leads vaccine development-related scientific investigations and publishes the work in scientific journals and patent filings.
  • Analyze, interpret, and record experimental results and present them in written/oral communications.
  • Run a wide range of experiments/technical studies/tasks testing sequence identity and gene expression profiles using bulk, single cell, and/or spatial sequencing across sequencing platforms, e.g., short and long read sequencers.
  • Develop and execute new methods and protocols and proactively incorporates new technology or techniques into practice with minimal supervision.
  • Performs complex data management tasks with minimal supervision.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ laboratory experience working in pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, academic or government institutes.
  • 3+ years' experience in molecular biology, genomics, transcriptomics, and assay development.
  • 3+ years' experience in next-generation sequencing technologies (Illumina, Pacific Biosciences, and/or Oxford Nanopore) and their applications, e.g., bulk RNA-seq, single cell omics, immune repertoire profiling.
  • 3+ years' experience in molecular biology, including but not limited to: Nucleic acid extraction and quality control, cloning, PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, reverse transcription, RNA in vitro transcription and purification, and various NGS library preparation methods.
  • PhD in molecular biology or related field, or Master’s Degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with automated high-throughput liquid-handling systems.
  • Experience in developing fully custom or customizing commercially available NGS workflows.
  • Experience in bioinformatics analysis of data from NGS experiments.
  • Must be detail oriented; possess problem solving skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Able to efficiently manage uncertainty, changes in priority and timeline restrictions.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills. Fluency in English.
