Job Description
At St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, we are translating science into survival with scientific breakthroughs that are advancing the fight against childhood cancer and other pediatric illness. The Kanneganti laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Science Research Writer to support the development, submission, and publication of the lab’s research articles and reviews and draft and maintain technical documents and scientific presentations. Additionally, the successful candidate will be an integral member of the research team, supporting the identification of project directions and experimental approaches.
The laboratory of Dr. Thirumala-Devi Kanneganti investigates signaling pathways involved in innate immunity and cell death with a particular focus on NLRs, inflammasomes, and inflammatory cell death (PANoptosis) and understanding how these pathways connect and impact health and disease. Successful candidates will have excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and data management skills. Flexibility to respond to rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines within the lab, along with a keen attention to detail, are also important in this position. Prior editorial experience is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
  • Maintain internal technical documents.
  • Monitor data integrity and image quality during manuscript development.
  • Assist with slide deck development for therapeutic targeting and venture capital pitches, as well as conference presentations.
  • Provide guidance to researchers on best practices in scientific writing.
  • Serve as an integral member of the research team to support projects at all stages, from conceptualization to publication.
  • Prepare and publish website content.
  • Stay up to date on literature in the field to inform writing directions.
  • Draft and edit manuscripts for publication in journals. This will include drafting review articles, research highlights, and commentaries as well as assisting with the drafting of primary research articles.
  • Organize conferences and speaker lists.
  • Assist with the preparation of major grant applications and project proposals.
  • Assist with institutional and regulatory protocol amendments, revisions, and submissions.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
  • PhD preferred.
  • Master of Science in an area of Biomedical Science, communications, business administration, education or other healthcare field required.
Minimum Experience:
  • Two years of experience writing and producing high-level scientific materials. Evidence of significant contribution to the writing and publication of major articles or reports is required. Experience conducting high-level research with significant independence. Experience working in a staff position or in a freelance capacity on coordination and management of complex scientific communications projects
