About The Job


Twine Freelancers work quickly and efficiently to produce high-quality results. We are looking for a Scenic Artist for a renowned non-profit professional theater company.


Job Duties:


  • Follows and promotes safe working practices in the use of shop tools and equipment. Instructing all personnel in the proper use and handling of materials including adherence to and promotion of safety regulations and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Mixes colors according to Designer’s renderings, and the designer communications.
  • Paints scenery for productions and contracted work.
  • Maintains paint supplies and equipment for the paint shop, and makes shop improvements as needed, or directed by the Charge or the Assistant Charge.
  • Works with Charge, Assistant Charge & Lead to create samples for painting all scenery for both the productions and any project that the company has been contracted to execute.
  • Assists in all aspects of the execution of the scenic design in full-scale as it pertains to texture, paint and paint finish, with accurate color and style representation from the renderings, research, plans and industry standards.


Requirements


  • Basic knowledge in chemistry for proper handling of solvents**.**
  • Please provide photo examples of past applicable work.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in scenic painting or the equivalent.
  • Must be proficient in proper surface prep, for all surfaces such as, wood, metal, foam, plastic and fabrics.
  • Experience with painting techniques and theory in addition to carving, faux finishing, and woodworking skills is preferred.
  • Able to use hand/power tools properly and safely.
  • Having a working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator, or similar programs is strongly desirable.
  • Knowledge of geometry and perspective for accurate layout and design.
  • Understand carpentry tools, grades of paintbrushes, sprayers, and carving and sculpting tools as well as the knowledge of cleaning and maintenance for these tools.
  • Must have a familiarity with scenic design, stage carpentry, inventory control, color mixing, drawing, drafting, carving, faux finishing, and basic woodworking.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and comfortable working at height.
  • Time management and interpersonal skills are essential.
