The Prince William County Public Works, Solid Waste Division is seeking a full-time, experienced Roll-off Truck Driver to work at the County Landfill and Balls Ford Road Compost Facility in Manassas, Virginia. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of full-time experience operating a roll-off truck. ABOUT THIS ROLE:
This position is part of a team of employees responsible for the safe and efficient operation of roll-off trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles such as water truck and rubber tire loader. The work includes preparing, loading, and transporting roll-off and other types of large containers from collection sites to the County Landfill, Balls Ford Road Compost Facility, or other locations in accordance with established standards and regulatory requirements. The job requires traveling on both high-traffic public roads and internal roadways at County facilities. The work also includes assisting with site cleanliness. This position will be assigned to the County Landfill and will report directly to a Crew Supervisor and the Assistant Solid Waste Superintendent.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid Virginia Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required.
- Successfully completing and passing a pre-employment physical is required.
- Minimum one (1) year of full-time experience operating a roll-off truck in the solid waste industry or construction industry is required.
- Minimum of an 8th grade education is required. High School diploma or GED is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and ability to perform vehicle and equipment inspections and minor preventative maintenance.
- Knowledge and ability to safely operate commercial vehicles such as a roll-off truck, water truck, and rubber tire loader in close proximately to other commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, and private trucks and vehicles in order to complete assigned tasks in all weather conditions.
- Ability to follow supervisor’s direction, work as a team, and communicate effectively and respectfully with coworkers and the public at all times.
- Ability to write and maintain accurate and timely logs, records, and reports.
- Ability to read, understand, and abide by all transportation and safety regulations and other applicable requirements, policies, and procedures pertaining to the assigned work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position is considered to be an essential, on-call employee. The job requires having and maintaining a valid Virginia Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License and is subject to alcohol and drug testing and driving record checks. This job is a safety-sensitive position that requires wearing personal protective equipment at all times while at work.
This job is physically demanding and requires exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The job also requires manual dexterity, standing, bending, climbing, crouching, grasping, kneeling, balancing, pulling, pushing, reaching, lifting up to 75 pounds, and the ability to walk over rough terrain in noisy and dusty conditions and inclement weather. The ability to safely work around vehicular traffic and heavy equipment is also required.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Work schedules are determined based on coverage of landfill and composting facility operations, which are seven days a week, 361 days a year. Employees are eligible for overtime and holiday pay. Working overtime, as well as some holidays and weekends is required depending on staffing levels, assigned shift, and workload.
Typical shifts for this position are Saturday to Tuesday starting at 6:30 or 7:00 a.m. OR Tuesday through Friday starting at 7:00 or 9:00 a.m. Drivers typically rotate shifts on a monthly basis. Shift days and hours are subject to change based on business needs.
ENTRY SALARY RANGE:
$22.68 to $33.02 per hour
