Hiring Immediately - Road Safety Supervisor

Transdev is seeking a Road Safety Supervisor for its Boston Public Schools transportation contract.  The Road Safety Supervisor performs a variety of functions to ensure that safe transportation service is efficiently delivered.  Position performs both field and office assignments at the discretion of the General Manager, Director of Safety and Training, and Safety Desk Manager.

Duties:

  • Reviews route issues and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Assists with ensuring the safety of the yards and other Transdev property.
  • Investigates accidents, incidents, unusual occurrences, and complaints. Compiles comprehensive, accurate and timely (end of shift) Safety deployment reports, incident/accident reports, and complaint investigation and observation records.
  • Participates in Safety Meetings and other events.
  • Utilizes other computer-based systems to monitor and improve on-street service.
  • Supervises and instructs School Bus Drivers with regards to safety, service, and route issues. Assists with on-time performance, as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
  • Conducts on-board evaluations and observes School Bus Drivers on the road, addresses safety problems, and documents safety violations.
  • Maintains an orderly and clean work area and vehicle.
  • Monitors service for compliance with motor vehicle laws, Company policies, and contractual safety and operational obligations of the client.
  • Visits schools to evaluate and address service performance and safety
  • Adheres to a dress code that demonstrates professionalism and respect.
  • Helps mediate issues between School Bus Drivers and students and/or parents.
  • Ensures safety and assists the client, School Bus Drivers, and Bus Monitors in overcoming operational challenges.
  • May be called upon to testify on behalf of the Company at Union grievances, Accident Review Committee meetings, Safety appeals meetings, or other litigations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Requests replacement buses/School Bus Drivers, as needed, for  vehicles involved in accidents or incidents and for special services.
  • Evaluates School Bus Drivers for fitness for duty, as necessary.

 

 

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:

  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
  • Have and maintain a satisfactory driving record consistent with Company and client policies.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:

  • A valid School Bus certificate.
  • A valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • Ability to obtain and a medical examiners certificate.  

Experience Required:

  • Two (2) years of passenger transit related experience.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

 

  • Proven customer service, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups.
  • Ability to compose simple correspondence as well as reports
  • Must be detail oriented, well organized, and possess effective time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small groups.
  • Must work and interact effectively with diverse groups.
  • Must be able to interact professionally with internal and external customers at all levels and demonstrate poise, tact, diplomacy, and utilize good judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work early mornings, afternoons or evening shifts to meet operational needs, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the service area.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.

Pre-Employment Physical:

  • Must receive satisfactory results on a pre-employment drug test and background screenings, including fingerprinting.
  • May be required to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment physical examination.
