Scope of Service

The Surgical Services team of highly skilled Surgeons, Nursing Assistants, Surgical Technologists, and Registered Nurses are specially trained. Our team includes Certified Perioperative Registered Nurses (CNOR) and Certified Post Anesthesia Nurses (CPAN®). An Anesthesiologist is also present on staff at all times and is available for consultation as necessary.
Surgeries are performed for both inpatient and outpatient procedures, including in the areas of cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, urology, gynecology, otolaryngology, dental/maxillofacial, plastic, trauma and general surgery.
As a Level I Trauma Center, Queen’s is staffed around the clock with experienced and dedicated Surgeons, Anesthesiologist, Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists and other health professionals who are ready to perform the most complex surgical procedures.
Queen Emma Tower 3 – Main Operating Room (OR) is a 24 hour/ 7 day a week facility which consists of 17 operating rooms with 2 equipped for open heart procedures. Service is provided to patients of all ages, birth to adult requiring major or minor surgical specialty services - Thoracic/Cardiovascular, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Urology, Gynecologic, Plastic, Dental/Maxillofacial, Otolaryngology, General, And Trauma surgery.
Responsibilities
Start your next career at Queen’s Medical Center. Be the next Registered Nurse in the Operating Room. The registered nurse is responsible for coordinating clinical care of patient. The RN will integrate all health care providers to ensure high quality patient/family outcomes, and establishes a consistent and accountable relationship with patient/family. Their key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, initiation and development of the plan of care, patient/family education, utilization management and discharge planning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Peri Op 101 certification, depending on experience
- Licensure: Registered Nurse, State of Hawaii
- Current ACLS Certification required
- Minimum of one (1) year Operating Room RN experience within the last five (5) years
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing; Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred. Current BLS/HCP card in all areas
- Must be able to take call, and be flexible.

OPERATING ROOM (MOR) PeriOp 101 CLASS
EXPERIENCE:
- All candidates will be required to shadow for a 4 hour block in QMC Main OR prior to final selection.
- Two (2) years of previous RN experience required.
OPERATING ROOM (OR) RN TCV
EXPERIENCE:
- Must be able to take call, and be flexible.
- Two (2) years of previous OR RN experience in scrubbing and circulating in TCV service line, within the last five (5) years.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Essential functions- Continuous: lifting up to 1/2 lb., seeing, hearing, talking, grasping, fingering. Frequent to continuous: standing, walking, stooping, forward reaching, handling. Frequent: pushing and pulling up to 30 psi, lifting up to 10 lbs., sitting, bending. Occasional to frequent: squatting, twisting. Occasional: pushing and pulling up to 70 psi; lifting: horizontal lift/carry up to 75 lbs. with assistance, floor to waist up to 35 lbs., waist to shoulder up to 25 lbs., overhead level up to 15 lbs.; carrying up to 35 lbs, running, climbing, side bending, kneeling, crouching, overhead reaching. Operates various machines/tools/work aids.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Inside work. Exposure to body fluids, blood products, and communicable diseases. Work environment may be highly stressful, fast paced and hectic. Assignment to inpatient adult psych areas and Family Treatment Center includes occasionally accompanying patients outdoors. Management of confused/disoriented and combative patients may involve tasks which may compromise physical safety.
