We are hiring a Registered Nurse to work in our ICU department at Cherokee Medical Center located in Gaffney, South Carolina!
- Full Time; 36 Hours Weekly; 7a to 7p

Our 125 bed, acute care hospital offers a wide range of services and is part of an organization with 6 acute care facilities, over 11,000 team members and 400 volunteers. Our Intensive Care Unit has 12 beds and a 2:1 nurse to patient ratio. We utilize the latest technology such as Omnicell, Epic, Alaris Pumps, Workstation on Wheels and Mindray (for vitals), allowing our team to provide the best care possible for our patients. This unit’s case types include Sepsis, Pneumonia, Acute Respiratory Failure, DKA, COPD, Exacerbation, AFIB with RVR, Hypertensive Emergency, etc.
We love new grads and are very supportive of new or experienced RNs! For team members interested in growing, we allow cross-training to specialty areas such as our Emergency Department!! Our diverse patient population and case types enables our unit to grow SRHS Strong RNs!
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Experience
- New Grads or Experienced RN's
License/Registration/Certifications
- ACLS
- BLS
- Current RN licensure in the state of South Carolina or Multi Compact State
Core Job Responsibilities
The ICU nurse is skilled to assess the patient’s problem quickly and capable to use high-tech equipment. The ICU nurse uses their advanced skills to care for patients that are critically ill and at high risk for life-threatening health problems. The ICU nurse provides nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles. In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of an ICU nurse include (but are not limited to):
- Responsible for demonstrating competency for all new equipment and procedures.
- Provides clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff
- Ensures compliance with all clinical expectations regarding regulatory requirements
- Complies with established policies and procedures
- Identifies the need to develop or revise policies and procedures pertaining to specialized patient populations and/or unit and hospital-based practices
- Ensure that ventilators, monitors, and other types of medical equipment function properly
- Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs
- Successfully completes hospital and unit-based orientation programs
- Able to cope with a high and varied workload including critical situations
- Serves on unit-based committees
- Identifies appropriate standards of care, and/or collaborative clinical pathways to guide the plan of care
- Assures continuity of care through effective decision-making resulting in quality patient care
- Initiates and facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance outcome
- Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing practice and theory.
- Collaborates with patients, families, and other members of the health care team to determine patient priorities and treatments
- Adhere to all SRHS Standards of Behavior and policies
- Documents all aspects of patient care by following established charting procedure to show the patient’s progress or any change in the patient’s condition
- Formulates a plan for professional growth
- Assesses assigned patients’ medical history, admitting diagnosis and physician’s orders, obtaining nursing history, performing physical assessment, evaluating diagnostic data, and interviewing patient and family to determine patient needs
- Monitor the critical patients for changes in status and indications of conditions and implement appropriate interventions
- Participates in hourly rounding and bedside shift report
- Includes family in patient care, recognizing positive impact they make on the patient’s recovery
