Franklin & Marshall College is recruiting for a full-time 10 Month Resident Costume Designer and Costume Shop Manger

Job Details:

This position is responsible for costume design and construction for all TND productions. The resident designer also mentors and instructs students in costume construction. These skills/design areas are essential to the departmental mission: to provide opportunities for students to expand their aesthetic understanding of the field, to engage students in experiential learning that applies their knowledge toward Theatre and Dance production, and to create high-level and thought-provoking performances for campus and community audiences. Weekend and evening hours required according to the yearly production schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • In conversation with directors, choreographers, and other designers, create costume designs (including visual articulations of planned designs) for all TND Theatre productions and Dance Concerts.
  • Oversee and care for costume stock and shop equipment, including supervision of cleaning, repairs, and rentals, and purchasing.
  • Provide costume support, from stock, for 1 Theatre class each spring, as needed.
  • Recruit, hire and train a student costume crew. Schedule and supervise that crew for hours in the costume shop, as well as costume assistance as needed throughout production processes, for all TND productions.
  • With the aid of student crew, fit and construct all costume designs, including purchasing as needed to realize designs, within given budget.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years experience in costume design and construction is required
  • Basic level of proficiency using Google Suite is required
  • Ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
  • Bachelors degree in theatre, design, or related field is required. M.A. or M.F.A. in costume design is preferred
  • Ability to work weekends when needed is required
