The Department of Animal Science is seeking to hire a Research Technologist II to work in the laboratory of Dr. Jose Cibelli. The candidate will perform and supervise new student employees of the laboratory in zebrafish maintenance, including feeding, tank-cleaning, animal breeding, routine equipment maintenance, basic cell culture, molecular biology, and embryo micromanipulation techniques. The candidate is expected to maintain laboratory stocks and order new reagents and supplies. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the laboratory and animal rooms in compliance with university policies and guidelines. This is a one-year, term-limited position, with end date 12 months from date of hire and possible renewal dependent upon satisfaction of performance and renewal of funding.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four- year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related field; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing basic research techniques specific to the area of research employment such as: Tissue Culture, Analytical Research, Molecular Biology, Agriculture, Social Science, Physiology, Medical Research, etc., including the use and calibration of related equipment; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The job may require the appropriate pesticide applicator's registration/certification, and/or experience working with potentially dangerous research animals specific to the area of research employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience collecting research samples from bovine slaughterhouses, oocyte retrieval and selection. Bachelor's degree in life sciences. Four years of experience managing a zebrafish colony. Work experience performing basic research techniques specific to the area of research employment such as: Tissue Culture, Embryo micromanipulations, Molecular Biology, etc., including the use and calibration of related equipment; word processing, spreadsheet;database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software. Experience working under university guidelines for animal use, biosafety and chemical safety.
