Job Description
Job Summary
Personnel in this position will provide support in the area of basic and applied research for improving conservation of marine mammal populations. Work will focus on (1) performing data analysis related to wildlife epidemiology using statistical models in R, (2) assisting with writing scientific documents for a variety of audiences, and (3) assisting with the planning and design of scientific research projects. Salary is commensurate with experience and proven success at writing scientific publications and proposals in a related field. Preference will be given to applicants in the Charleston, SC, area, but remote candidates are encouraged to apply.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Perform applied research supporting the conservation of marine mammals and/or restoration approaches to support recovery of marine mammal populations
  • Complete investigative studies of wildlife epidemiology and marine mammal physiology, ecology, behavior, bioacoustics, genetics, or health effects associated with exposure to environmental stressors
  • Lead and support preparation and technical reviews of scientific proposals, manuscripts, reports, protocols, experimental design, customer interaction, and formal presentations
  • Conduct scientific investigations in advanced analytical techniques to support quantification of injuries and restoration planning in wild marine mammal populations following exposure to environmental stressors
Skills and Competencies

Qualifications
  • PhD in Life Sciences (such as biology, wildlife epidemiology, psychology, animal behavior, or other related field) or Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science
Work Environment
  • Field work may include open ocean locations and physical activities on and around water and watercraft, including animal manipulations and animal health assessments.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling, sliding and transferring objects, diving, and boat operation may be required, especially during field work.
  • Travel is required for meeting attendance, workshops, and potentially field work.
This is a remote position.
