Job Description

Overview:

We have an opening in our R&D team for a talented Research Scientist with an in-depth working knowledge, and extensive background in biologic function of Thymus, Spleen and age-related degradation of the immune system.

We are working with a clinical biotechnology company developing next generation methods for culturing, differentiating, and activating allogenic human dermal fibroblasts to use in tissue regeneration and potentially therapeutic treatments for multiple chronic diseases.

In this position you will be responsible for designing and carrying out large scale animal model studies and carrying out in-depth biomarker analysis. Other duties include culturing, expanding, differentiating, along with molecular and phenotypic characterization of monolayer and 3D cell models. You will have the opportunity to make significant contributions and advance in our dynamic start-up environment where self-driven, always-curious and enthusiastic team members thrive.

Responsibilities:

  • Help to maintain laboratory organization and order supplies.
  • Molecular and histochemical characterization of cells.
  • Carrying out experiments using qPCR, ddPCR, qRT-PCR, and Western blotting.
  • Maintenance, expansion, and differentiation of primary and stable cell lines.
  • Additional activities as needed.
  • Use good documentation practices to establish and maintain records of the work being performed.
  • Perform cell sorting and flow cytometry-based characterization.
  • Design and carry out animal model studies.
  • Extraction and purification of chromatin DNA, RNA, and proteins.
  • Perform experiments and analyze immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization.
  • Participate in experimental design and execution.
  • Work in a team environment, collaborating with various colleagues across multiple departments.
  • Maintain familiarity with current scientific literature as advised by supervisor.
  • Phenotypic characterization methods for mammalian cells and tissues.
  • Examine data and prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, and analysis, ensuring experiments are well documented.
  • Extensive work with stem, mesenchymal, and fibroblast cell lines.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in designing and carrying out animal model studies.
  • Ph.D. in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
  • Excellent organizational skills, record-keeping, and lab notebook tracking.
  • Strong computational skills, experienced with Word, Excel, Power Point, and GraphPad Prism.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Desire to be part of a rapidly evolving organization which requires flexibility, and a willingness to learn new techniques and methods.
  • Extensive background in thymic involution and age-related degradation of the immune system.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and function in a team-oriented environment.
  • Experience with cytometry, cell sorting, light and fluorescence microscopy, as well as DNA/RNA and protein-based molecular biology approaches.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with maintenance and differentiation of human cells.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience working with human stem cells, and animal models.
  • Outstanding tissue culture skills (working on aseptic conditions), including maintenance, expansion, and differentiation of several cell lines simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rodent surgery experience.
  • Extensive background in human immunology.
