- Provide technical product-process support to plants. Ensure the constant improvement of quality (performance) of existing products, improvement of production systems and maximizing the utilization of raw materials. Individual will have responsibility over 2-3 plants in the Saputo network while based in Wisconsin. Technical support will be focused on goat, hard Italian, imports as well as supporting the start-up of our new packaging facility in Franklin, WI.
- Collaborate with technical bodies (University, vendors, equipment suppliers, culture suppliers) in the design of new manufacturing equipment or modifications of existing ones.
- Cultivate and develop vendor relationships to secure the necessary ingredients and new technologies needed to meet business objectives.
- Plan, run, and monitor plant trials, and train more junior scientists to conduct plant trials. Document findings and share trial reports with key stakeholders.
- Partner with cross functional partners (Marketing, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain, QA etc.) to ensure an efficient and successful product launch or enhancement of new or existing products. Manage portions of the execution that are related to product formulation or production processes. Lead complex new product development and supports current product improvement.
- Assist with the development of cheesemakers at plants and coach and assist with the development of junior R&D/technical service teammates.
- Ensure coordination and supervise the execution in the plant of new process technologies tests and new manufacturing capabilities potentially impacting the quality of products.
- Develop recipes for new products/customers for specific business needs. Modify current recipes to meet application requirements and provide sales/marketing/operations with specifications needed to make and sell the new product.
- Review Financial reports with plants and make recommendations on variations noted by providing support on testing validations, fluid losses and recoups/yields.
- Excellent data analysis, generate reports and communicate research findings to Team and Management.
- Capable of bench-top trials and scaling to plant environment.
- Capable of working independently and part of the team.
- Strong people and project management skills to effectively and efficiently drive a complex program.
- Familiarity with SAP Architecture is a plus.
- Strives for high standards, seeks innovative solutions, drives continuous improvement of ingredients, semi-finished and finish products, processes and demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail.
- Successful track record and proven experience in product/process development from plant trials to successful execution to market.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to influence with integrity through persuasive communication to win support at senior levels within R&D and across various functional areas.
- Excellent Excel and PowerPoint experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science plus 6 years related experience or a Master’s in Food Science.
- Result oriented with strong passion for creativity and innovation within a complex driven environment.
- Dynamic, flexible, proactive approach and ability to work effectively in high - pressure situations within strict deadlines.
