Position Description:

Purpose

Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator’s research projects. Perform experiments, analyze data, compile results, and monitor quality control processes to ensure research integrity.

Primary Functions

• Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
• Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs.
• Disseminate research results by depositing structures and data in the protein data bank or other public repositories.
• Maintain supplies, negotiate with vendors, and track purchase orders.
• Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring data quality activities.
• Collaborate with principal investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
• Perform and assist other research personnel with cryo-EM structure determination of chemokine-GPCR complexes.
• Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation. May serve as a primary statistician for the area.
• Prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed journals as primary author or co-author.
• Perform or assist with X-ray crystallography structure determination projects.
• Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret data validity, develop methodologies, and evaluate lab procedures.
• Develop new methodologies for lab procedures.
• Design and execute complex research procedures.
• May oversee the work of laboratory personnel, including training and development, as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Knowledge of standard experimental and computational structural biology techniques, protein biochemistry, molecular biology, documentation, and records management.

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.

Specifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

• Minimum Required Experience: 0 years
• Minimum Required Education: PhD in physical or biological sciences

Preferred Education: PhD in biochemistry or related discipline

Preferred Experience: 3-5 years of postdoctoral research in experimental structural biology (e.g. X-ray crystallography and/or single particle analysis cryoelectron microscopy)
