Research Scientist I, Mechanical Engineering

Location: Moscow
Division/College: Research Centers and Institutes
Employee Category: Exempt
Pay Range: $95,000 annually or higher depending on education and experience
FTE: 1.0
Full/Part Time: Full Time
Position Summary:
Serves as an independent researcher, or a collaborator on a multi-scholar research initiative. May have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger project under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.
Duties may include:
  • Performing peer review of scientific projects, studies, or applications and making recommendations
  • Establishing work priorities and performance standards, hiring, training, evaluating staff, assigning, and reviewing work
  • Participating in the development of grant proposals as named project contributor
  • Performing complex scientific analyses
  • Directing the development of recommendations for project solutions
  • Preparing peer reviewed publications or presentations
  • Adjusting experimental designs as necessary based on experimental data analysis
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Resolving complex project specific technical and regulatory issues
  • May be responsible for technical project management to include developing the scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, reporting, implementing field projects, and approving scientific documents


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Design, or Product Development.
  • Three years of research experience related to the domain of this position.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience writing proposals and acquiring externally funded grants
  • Experience developing models of scientific phenomena
  • Experience disseminating research results demonstrated through a record of publication in reputable journals
  • Experience in design of experiments
  • Ability to independently solve problems and perform complicated tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to develop experimental equipment
