Description of Work Unit
The Integrated Cropping System research program at the Western Colorado Research Center in Fruita is part of the Western Colorado Research Center, encompassing the Orchard Mesa Research Station, Organic Agricultural Research Station at Rogers Mesa, and the Grand Valley Research Station (Fruita).

Position Summary
The Agricultural Research Field Technician will be supported by the projects funded by the Colorado Corn Promotion Council and Ag. Nutrien
PURPOSE OF POSITION : To provide assistance to WCRC -GV and its partners, in the soil sampling, evaluation of corn, cowpea and sorghum for silage, forage analysis, evaluation of stay green sorghum and proso-millet, irrigation scheduling and, crop yields, data collection, preliminary analysis, equipment maintenance and other tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATIONSHIPS : The Research Field Technician will be supervised by Dr. Sri Pinnamaneni at the Western Colorado Research Center – Grand Valley ( WCRC -GV). Additional guidance for the position will be provided by WCRC -GV staff and farmer-stakeholders supporting the project. The position requires effective working relations with agricultural and environmental stakeholders.
Position Minimum Qualifications
  • Expertise with basic spreadsheet data (i.e., MS Excel)
  • Willingness to collaborate in a team environment on a multitude of tasks that may change and diversify weekly
  • Pursuing a degree in Natural Resources Management, Soil and Crop Sciences, or closely related fields.
  • Willingness to learn to work with basic vendor-supplied programs and other data management software unique to field equipment.
  • Ability to communicate (public speaking and writing skills)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in research farms
  • Experience with data recording, handling, and analysis
