Job Description
Research Associate, Pandemic Prevention

Organization Summary

The Arsenault Family Foundation, d.b.a. PAX sapiens (“PAX”) is a foundation focused on issues driving conflict and insecurity internationally. PAX sapiens uses direct grantmaking and coordination tools such as convenings, conferences, and information sharing systems to advance human security and sustainable peace. PAX sapiens currently has two primary issue areas it focuses on: strengthening global systems for pandemic prevention and promoting a peaceful US-Chinese relationship. PAX also works on other issues relating to sustainable peace and security.

PAX sapiens works closely with the One Earth Future Foundation, Inc. (“OEF”). For more than a decade, OEF has worked to solve complex problems at the root of armed conflict. At the foundation level, OEF provides administrative and operational support to PAX needed to iteratively develop solutions to complex problems that could not have been designed in advance. This includes employing individuals supporting PAX on a full-time basis to cut down on administrative costs for the benefit of both organizations.

Primary Role: PAX sapiens has a primary focus on pandemic prevention and strengthening the global system for the early detection and effective response to existing and new diseases with pandemic potential. The Research Associate will be responsible for working with PAX leadership and Fellows to develop research and events that support our impact on the global system. The Research Associate will be expected to actively develop a policy-engaged research program including both novel empirical research (particularly through the use of public opinion polls) and convening-based expert engagement that advances the global system of pandemic preparedness and response in the service of prevention. The Research Associate will also work to develop specific research projects or activities designed to support specific goals or opportunities developed as a part of PAX strategic planning.
