Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Preclinical MRI Research Assistant to join our dynamic research team focused on advancing scientific understanding through cutting-edge preclinical imaging techniques. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in conducting high-quality MRI experiments on mice and rats, contributing to the development of innovative strategies for preclinical research. Additionally, this role will involve assistance with human translational imaging procedures.

Assists with research study, experiments, preparation of material, and documentation.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  • Evaluates research results, reports findings and discusses project outcomes with staff involved.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  • Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Image processing and analysis.
  • Performs literature research on specified topics.
  • Contrast preparation and administration.
  • Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
  • Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
  • Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  • Conducts research experiments and assays.

Working Conditions

Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in handling and working with laboratory animals, particularly mice and rats.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., biology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience with preclinical MRI techniques and small animal imaging.
  • Familiarity with MRI sequence setup, data acquisition, and basic image analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research and record findings, with a focus on pursuit of advanced education in field.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with two years of experience in laboratory operations.

Salary Range

$16.76 - $28.51 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
