Job Description

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fabric R&D Manager/Director to lead the development and operations of textiles for Rebecca Taylor. As the Manager/Director, you will play a critical role in driving fabric innovation and ensuring the successful execution of our seasonal collections.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Fabric R&D:

  • Collaborate with corporate testing to ensure all fabrics meet the required standards.
  • Maintain a fabric development calendar and adhere to seasonal deadlines.
  • Update and manage the fabric library and vendor matrix.
  • Collaborate with vendors on Flash Costing to achieve pricing and minimum targets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a team player mentality are also critical for success in this position.
  • Partner with Product Development to establish clear pricing and merchandising strategies for each product classification.
  • Collaborate closely with mills and suppliers to develop new fabrics.
  • Work closely with Product Development to ensure a seamless handover process.
  • Facilitate meetings between mills, design, and product development to explore new fabric qualities and finishing techniques.
  • Analyze and assess fabric requirements based on Design's seasonal direction and provide mill/fabric recommendations.
  • Maintain bulk fabric archives.
  • Create mill cards in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management).


Experience, Skills & Knowledge: Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Fabric R&D or a related area.
  • Effective time management and project management skills.
  • Familiarity with mills and suppliers.
  • Experience with PLM is preferred.
  • Experience with raw material and garment testing.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with great attention to detail.
  • Strong technical knowledge of woven and knit fabrics.


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Textile Development, Textile Management.
