Job Summary
Registered behavior technicians (RBTs) provide applied-behavior-analytic services for patients diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or other behavioral diagnoses under the direction of a professional behavior analyst (e.g., board certified behavior analyst, licensed psychologist). RBTs assist with patient assessments and program implementation. RBTs assist with organizing and maintaining data-collection and statistical-analysis systems, research activities, and staff training.
Essential Job Functions
Applied-Behavior-Analytic Services
- Complete daily progress notes
- Report the behavior and environment in observable and measurable terms to a professional behavior analyst and provide goal updates
- Send most updated protocols for current treatment to BCBA/BCBA-D on a weekly basis
- Conduct sessions with patients using standard procedures under the direction of a professional behavior analyst
- Assist with the development of skill-acquisition programs (e.g., increasing acceptance and consumption of healthy food and liquid, developmental feeding skills such as self-feeding or chewing, social and communication skills, curriculum-based developmental, social skills)
- Calculate interobserver agreement scores and maintain documentation of such, to send to your case BCBA/BCBA-D on a weekly basis
- Assume primary responsibilities in the event that they are absent from work
- Update treatment tracker throughout admission
- Maintaining and updating assessment and treatment graphs to be presented at supervision meetings
- Assist in the training of caregivers (e.g., parents, school personnel)
- Communicate progress and updates on a daily basis to your case BCBA/BCBA-D
- Assist with the development of behavior-reduction programs (e.g., extinction protocols to reduce inappropriate mealtime behavior, non-contingent reinforcement to reduce crying, functional communication training)
Auxiliary Program Support
- Assist clinical faculty and professional behavior analysts with various research activities
- Assist in organization, cleanliness, and maintenance of department location, materials, and equipment
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience
High-school degree/GED
Preference given to individuals with experience working with patients or individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities, pediatric feeding disorders, or other behavioral diagnoses in an educational, instructional, or therapeutic setting
Certification
American Heart Association BLS required
Must successfully complete 40-hour competency-based course covering the RBT Task List of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and submit the certificate of completion prior to start date.
Must complete RBT Competency Assessment of the BACB prior to or within 1 month of start date.
Must pass RBT exam within 3 months of start date.
License

Physical Demands
Must be able to move, lift, and carry patients and objects. Moving, lifting, or transferring of patients may involve independently lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assisting with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Requires use of abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. This position requires frequent movement, use of limbs, and good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina. This position may also require extended periods of standing or sitting
Working Environment - Additional Comments
RBTs may work with patients who vomit, or who engage in other forms of challenging behavior, such as aggression, self-injury, elopement, expulsion (spitting out food or liquid during treatment), or property destruction.
